Indonesia, a soon to be a trillion $ economy spends very less proportion of its GDP on defense. Your Navy seems Ok to me but the Air Force looks to me in Dilapidated condition. Indonesia has money to spend in R&D and joint projects. A big country with huge population and decent surplus must strengthen its armed forces. update us with ongoing and future procurement schedule of Indonesian Armed Forces.

I think Indonesian government doesn't want to start an arm race in this peaceful SouthEastAsia region. Thats why Indonesia's military spending never reach 1% of our GDP. If we spend much money on military, our neighbours will scream like hell.

Maybe Reashot or Nufix can start a new thread with some Indonesian member help to give update with ongoing and future. procurement.

102 new planes this year? Wow, that´s a lot.
Hope Indonesia continues staying neutral, and playing some mediating roles in the SCS dispute.

Indonesia I believe is the 4th largest country by population.
It should have a much bigger voice in international affairs than it currently has.
Hopefully the CPC can prioritise relations with Indonesia!

Indonesia has the potential to play more actively on international theater. It is the political leadership which also wants to do so.

Would it be possible that Indonesia , Malaysia and Brunei get merged in one country or form a union type structure where military , currency and foreign policy will be common.

.
Indonesia itself is a regional power and being so, china would do well if it can win it over as an ally. Great powers need strong regional players to project power & establish domianance. just like US has Japans, UK, Israel, Germany china also needs strong countries by her side to surpass US. Malaysia, Indonesia, PAK, Egypt has the potential to full fill such roles. Indoneshia-chinese collaboration is much needed for a stable Asia.

Would it be possible that Indonesia , Malaysia and Brunei get merged in one country or form a union type structure where military , currency and foreign policy will be common.

That would be great. At least a EU like scenerio but there is thing called nationalism.:D They have ASEAN btw.
