Indigenous cannon system(s) for Pakistan Army

Pakistan could be spending money and effort developing artillery useful for combating the Taliban, why should it develop conventional cannon instead?

What is useful against the Taliban can be useful against conventional forces as well. Pakistan is currently using field artillery (Medium and Heavy regiments) comprising of 122mm, 130mm and 155mm calibers against the Taliban. If Pakistan standardizes to 155mm, then this same capability affords a viable asset in case of a conventional war.

Keep the 130mm, although towed it outrages most 155mm systems so is a useful counter-battery tool. Just watch out for Indian rocket artillery, an area where Pakistan really needs to catch up. The US MLRS, or Chinese WS-1 or PHL03 (Smerch Copy). 122mm is outdated and needs to be junked.

In 2003 the U.S. didn't even bother sending its heavy artillery regiment into Iraq - the troops were stripped of their weaponry and used for crowd control instead. Why would Pakistan find 155mm howitzers more useful against terrorists than the U.S.?

The Russians have a tracked heavy (240mm) mortar system. Cheap, powerful, easy to build, and extremely effective. Does Pakistan have anything similar?

We have already acquired A-100 300 mm MLRS. It is in service with the PA.

Also the 122mm is D-30 not 122mm MBRL (which is also in use and is an older system). The D-30 is a very effective weapon and can be moved around with ease into rough terrain. A lot of fire support for units in FATA is being done by the D-30s.

One of the main reasons that i can tell you for not taking up the projects of making Artillery pieces is that after making a gun we can't even make up the cost that already had been expended over the project.

So..
No exports, no artillery guns made in Pakistan.

Hey Blaini you tell them everything:azn:

Anywaz, i love the D-30s with its longer range as compared to 122 mm and 105 mm HOWs.

A guud counter weight to indian IFG!

Hopefully nothing confidential has been given out ;)
I believe the 300mm system is no longer being kept under wraps by the Army.

Good news for Pakistan on the A-100. I am just not a big fan of the Type 54/D-30. But I come from a 105/155/175 culture. The only Russian gun or Chinese copy that really impressed was the 130mm because of its exceptional range for the era- still up there with the best 155mm systems.

News was released last year.....

Yes it was. The system is on the less than glamorous Calendar of the Pakistan Army for 2009/10 now so nothing discrete about it any longer.

Love it! 6400 mil traverse easy as pie. Perfect for a star formation on a hilltop firebase.

Really nice weapon in my view.
