Indigenous cannon system(s) for Pakistan Army

Regarding the metallurgical operations I being a Chemical Engineering can say for sure that Pakistan isn't being able to domestically produce 155mm howitzer or any equvalent!! The technology that is used for such products requires careful bore simulating drills metered amount of CONFIDENTIAL additives to the metal being forged & a smooth surface rendering at microscopic level. The following document provide some technical insight of a very new & cost effective method of manufacturing these large guns!!

Many thanks Sir, I am chemical engineer myself with an M.Sc from University of London (1967) and a senior member of the American Institue of Chemical Engineers.

However, some honourable members refuse to accept my explanations. One hon. member even implied as if there was a conspiracy that despite making tanks we didnot make artillery systems. What can one do in the face of such logic but to accept the fact that you cant win all the arguments.

WOW WOW WOW I just am student of CHM engineering undergraduates I think I found myself a teacher; not kidding perhaps. You being a senior to me don't state SIR in our future correspondence & I be looking forward to your id or Mobile# perhaps!!
HAHAH don't mind Sir

Conspiracy..?? Wow!

Also the resources we save (not only money) by not going in such a project can be spent on current projects i.e. our curse missile, or some other future projects.:chilli:

It is not that resources spent on expanding the Steel factory will go to waste. You need to have the means to build basic stuff first, which we are not doing, then move on to more complicated projects.
Niaz Saheb, your message is well received and we respect your opinion and knowledge on these issues. Please continue the discourse. |However, in my humble opinion, ifwe dont have the basic skills, we cant just jump 20 notches and develop incredible machines.

It is seriously shocking for me till now members did'nt reach on an productive conclusion. High performance steel, its production and boring is not impossible in Pakistan if Pakistan Army decide to do so. In my view till now they did'nt decide to develop in Pakistan. The envelop of atom bomb is much more difficult to develop than artillary steel. Pakistani engineers developed this and at present moment we have one of the smallest & lightest atom bomb envelop design. Once Dr. Samar Mubarak Mand said if Pakistan need a new design we can develop in three months. So why not high performance steel & boring for Artillary.:pakistan:

Have you thought about cost vs benefit? Maybe there is simply not enough demand to justify the investment required.
The effort regards the Nuclear program has shown specific benefits.

Pakistan want to standerise its Artillary System to 155 mm. India have nearly 4000 artillary system if i am not wrong Indian Army plans to procure 3000 to 4000 155 mm Artillary Systems.
Equipment of the Indian Army - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Atleast we need half numbers of Artillary Systems of India and those are 2000 155 mm Artillery Systems. At moment Pakistan have 600 203 mm and 155mm Artillery Systems including new order of M109A5 155 mm Self-Propelled Howitzers. Would you like to buy rest 1500 Artillery Systems or like to develop in Pakistan. Still it is not enough to justify the investment required.

And how much of the cost (of the artillery) is the barrels? And what do you do with the capacity once the order is filled? Would the cost of making your own be cheaper than buying off the shelf? These are all valid questions. And you have to think about viability beyond the "self sufficient " order of Gun barrels.

You have prefered to buy 1400 to 1500 Artillary Systems rather than to develop in country and you think it will be viable to buy than to develop in country. So why pakistan develop tanks in Pakistan and why Alkhalid 2 Project is in process. Because Pakistan Army want selfreliance and want to reduce price. Alkhalid tank is 3 times cheaper than western tanks. When we will produce 1400 to 1500 Artillary Systems + chance of export. Artillary System development project will be cheaper for us same as Alkhalid tank Project. Furthermore we need not to develop completely in Pakistan. We can develop with mutual cooperation with China or Turkey. Please respons logically.

Right the cost of 115 m119 pieces was $56 million. How much would it cost to Build 115 from scratch? thats 480 000 a piece remember try getting them cheaper.....Sometimes expediency is the reason why we don't do everything ourselves. the Indians went down that route and look where they are. Maybe in future however the facility would be more cost effective and will be taken up.

well it is somethimg that one can never understand.

we have the infra structure at HIT taxila so why the hell are we not making them.

we have the technology for building barels, if we can build them we can surel build cannones with some foreign supprot.

secondly another stromg point in its favour is that cannons are some what cheap weapon for a thrid world country so we may also get an opportunity to explore export market!!

Pakistan could be spending money and effort developing artillery useful for combating the Taliban, why should it develop conventional cannon instead?

You just can't get enough of it.Read the thread title and if you have any thing to contribute otherwise you would be considered a zionist :D troll
