When Mao said religion is poison he didn't say that propaganda mechanism too in a totalitarian system can proved to be hashish.

Propaganda is no different from so called political campaign, junk media in India, or political media like Fox news? Propaganda can only work in country with low literacy, not in China where literacy rate is well over 90%.

We are not a totalitarian system, we are a socialism system that emphasizes on social order and competency over democracy.

Not true when the world had already witnessed how a scientific propaganda tool can create a mass hysteria in a nation that holds an enviable record of one hundred percent literacy in 1930's Germany.

yea but quality and standard of life in slums is improving greatly

With or without that propaganda, Nazi Germany is still Nazi Germany. And we are not exactly in 1930s, are we? Information Age has transformed the way how information is processed and knowledge is gained. Information age has rendered propaganda obsolete.

Fair enough. Time has changed,so does the ways of brainwashing through ages. Even In a democratic system, although a little bit difficult, the propaganda tool works in a different way than it was used to be fifty years before. In an autocratic system this method is in slight different garb with a much easier mechanism. In India when suppression of fact is utter necessity for the government, banning of news channel or electronic media is not an easier neither wiser process. So our system just like any other older democratic societies of the world has developed a very unique system of propaganda mechanism using media. And if you believe the Chinese system is not using this mechanism in a different way,I think they are way too successful.

This is one of the 2010 report..

India and China lift millions out of slums: UN | Business Standard

some extract

India has lifted 59.7 million people out of slum conditions since 2000. Slum prevalence fell from 41.5 per cent in 1990 to 28.1 per cent in 2010. This is a relative decrease of 32 per cent, the study found, according to the report called State of the World’s Cities 2010/2011.

It takes two hands to clap. Do you think a modern day educated chinese who has information at his fingertip would believe whatever the govt says? Or for that matter, whatever that is reported on western media, like Fox news?

Yes,even the educated class can be victim of state sponsored propaganda mechanism. The present day America could possibly be an appropriate example in some way to define how it worked during Gulf war and after 09/11. Even in India, this educated class often finds itself trapped into confusion and misdirected when electronic media is used scientifically to manipulate real facts and events. In an autocratic system in just a different manner by blocking sites and foreign news sources.Hope you remember the banning of Google in our country. In India,we cant even think of it but we are victim of a much more sophisticated tool of manipulation.

Liberal Americans tune into CNBC, the conservatives watch Fox news. Americans know exactly which media represents what political views, they make their own choices. Many americans are against the gulf war, there's no propaganda at all. You have to know, it was the republican administration that started the war.
You are right about India media and all the manipulation of facts. But that's down to poor industry regulation. If I may say so, when you have serious corruption problem in govt, nothing is going to work. It trickles down.
Talking about banning or censorship, we are not in 1930's. As I said, it's the information age, we easily pass by the proxy or get illegally download movies via torrent.
And Google is just portal. You can use Yahoo to get to the same websites.
