It's been a year since the INS Vikramaditya, was commissioned. However, India's largest warship still does not have a close-on weapon system (CIWS). It will be installed only after a year.
The CIWS is a defence weapon for detecting as well as destroying enemy aircraft and short-range missiles that may attempt to strike the warship.

And that's not the only thing that's missing. During a refit, other weaponry systems like long range surface to air missile system, point defence missile system etc. will also be installed onto the warship.
With such crucial weapons missing, the warship is ill-armed for missiles attacks.

In comparison, INS Viraat has far more sophisticated weapons like Barack defence systems and anti-aircraft guns. On the other hand, fighter pilots of the INS Vikramaditya are undergoing training to fly MiG 29K aircraft.
"Installation of CIWS was not done on INS Vikramaditya in Russia. It will be done during the refit of the vessel," said vice admiral Anil Chopra, flag officer, commander-in-chief of the western naval command.
The aircraft carrier was commissioned into the Indian Navy on November 13 last year. The refit is scheduled in 2015 or early 2016.

The defence mechanisms that are missing on the INS Vikramaditya are present on almost all naval platforms to be better equipped to fight enemies and defending the vessel from air attacks.
According to a source, the refit may most likely happen at Cochin Shipyard Limited due to unavailability of facilities and space inside the naval dockyard, where currently there is a facility to carry out refits for INS Viraat.

The INS Vikramaditya is currently on its maiden visit to Mumbai. A few trials are also being conducted off Mumbai's coast. The ship arrived in India in January this year and is based at Karwar.

Formerly known as 'Baku' and 'Admiral Gorshkov', she served Russia from December 1987 till a boiler room explosion occurred in 1994. After a year of repairs, she again returned to serve in 1996 only to be withdrawn in 1996. In 2004, India accepted the vessel, which then underwent extensive refits and upgradation before being handed over.

Ever heard of CBG

Because the Vikramdtiya sails without escorts and without 25 fully armed MiG-29K/KUB........:coffee:

Oh and this was reported to death about 12 months ago.

yawn.

It's better if they don't waste money on that useless heap of metal.

Your Aircraft Carrier Is a Piece of Crap — War Is Boring — Medium

"...India’s experience has been even worse. In 2004 New Delhi inked a $1.5-billion deal for the 1982-vintage Russian flattop Admiral Gorshkov. In Russian service, the 45,000-ton vessel had carried a few helicopters and small Yakovlev jump jets; the Indians paid to have the flight deck expanded and a bow ramp fitted to accommodate up to 16 MiG-29 fighters.

“Instead, the boilers’ designer had to use firebrick ceramics. Which, as we see, didn’t work so well. Especially on a ship that Russia put up for sale in 1994, after a boiler room explosion.” Our emphasis.

More repairs. More delays. More money. “The problems revealed during sea trials last year have been fixed,” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin vowed in late 2013, by which point Vikramaditya was expected to enter active service in India in the spring of 2014.

“Active service” being a relative term. If Russia’s own experience with its crappy carriers is any indication, the Indian ship will spend most of her time in port being repaired between brief forays into near waters. New Delhi is building a new carrier from scratch that should eventually complement the Russian hand-me-down.

INS Vikramaditya will be sailing with a battle group. The article does state that anti missile systems will be fitted. Nothing to discuss to be honest.

Ehm no key defense system?!

The key defense system of every carrier are its escort and of course its fighter squadrons!

The CIWS systems are the very last line of defense

.
It's probably because "India's largest warship" is actually a CV  and CVs are supposed to sail with destroyer escort and submarines, thus the fighter wing stationed on deck.

& the ships that will escort that carrier will be fitted with the most advanced Missiles
The Indo-Israeli Barack 8

bro, that news is old. INS Vikramaditya, will be fitted with barak 8 SAM. navy want to a Non- russian CIWS on ins Viki. that is the reason why they don't have SAMs or CIWS at the time they are commissioned .. these systems will be fitted on that ship soon..

I'm skeptical of whether the Viki will be fitted with the Barak 2 or even needs to be- this is for the escorts to do, an ACC is meant to operate a/c and have minimal armaments (point defence only).

the uniqueness of the Barak-8 is that it can act as point defense SAM as well as a medium range sam. it is said that barak-8 will be fitted in viki. every aircraft need a defence system.. even US supper carriers have those despite having an escort of worlds best air defense ships.

All this and our military planners are morons to utilise this stupidity of the enemy. Such a huge juicy target in the middle of the ocean. And a surprise attack during peacetime will catch any navy off guard as any aircraft can fly over the carrier since open seas are not subjected to any overfly rules. The thunder doesnt even have to overfly as the carrier killer's range is 300kms!! Our pilots could easily sink the carrier with Thunder and laugh our asses off when India sends dossiers after dossiers after losing their carrier. :D If they start making more noise all we have to do is utter the word nuclear and the cowards will go all quiet again. I hope pakistan produces a true leader in the coming months who takes this patriotic step.

Argue against it, why silence a sound strategy??

wow!!!! Your are really a genius..... even zaid hamid will be second to you in this kind of logic!!!:lol::lol:

there are something you must learn..

1) INS Vkiramadithya is not anchored off in pakistani water so that your so called junk JF-17 can came and have a look at the ship

2) there are fighter aircraft supported by AEW choppers and escorting destroyer, frigates, anti-sub corvets and submarines for offence. these ships are packed with enough missiles to devastate your entire southern coastline.

3)the ship itself have one of the most powerful jammer in the world which will even blind your AEWACS.

4) INS vikramaditya have a powerful radar which will detect your JF-17 from 400km away, even before your fighter jet detect the ship.

PS: keep your dreams are dreams no need to say those in here.
