What's new

India's GDP overtakes France to become the 6th largest in the World. Britain is next

Overtaking small countries like France and Britain is easy, and their GDPs are very similar, the more you are moving towards the top , the harder will become, China has been stuck in the second place for some years by now, it may take anther decade for China to overtake US.

And GDP is just a number, visible development all across the board is much more important than the GDP number.

You know in Pakistan we often get accused of covering our women too much. Burqa, Hijab and what have you. There maybe some truth to that. But in India's case the pendulum swings the other way around. Odisha in it's full glory. Adios Gangios ....

Well, that makes it same as Pakistan at 29,000MW

https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/30...ricity-capacity-increases-by-30pc-to-29-573mw

It is worth mentioning here that one of the problems Pakistan has faced is energy deficit. There simply is not enough natural resources in Pakistan to keep up with demand. That is why the country faces crippling electricity shortages which has devastated industry and made life miserable for consumers. The underlying cause is Pakistan does not have cheap, easily available natural energy source, be it oil [Arabs], coal [India], gas [Iran] which means the country is hurt by having to import energy.

In India most of your energy is from native coal which is a natural blessing, almost if not quite as much as what the Arabs have with oil. But seeing that coal is in that primitive, swampy region[Odisha] which happens to be motherlode of those hideous Aboriginals you are most welcome to the coal.

Odisha puts the feather on the cap of Gangadesh :yahoo:

Sorry to burst another bubble, India is now one of the largest renewable energy projects undergoing in the world
and is more than US,Japan and Europe

Well, Pakistan have rivers on which you could have built hydro power dams. For some reason that didn't happen. Should have been an agenda for you right after '47. Shouldn't have let Indian beat you in that. Till this day, Pakistani are running in cash crunch to make dams while India keeps on making them like sausages. And remember your economy was way better than India in 50-early 90s? And during coldwar you had ear of the massive superpower called USA.

Pakistan have lots of natural gas and coal in KP and Balochistan about which we keep on hearing day-in and day-out in PDF but you didn't explore it early on, or developed coal/gas fired power station. Another lost opportunity. I find it rather disturbing that after having coal you have to import more primitive coal fired power plants from China and ask other nations for coal.

You have massive amount of sunshine in your backyard, with population concentrated in the green belt around indus but didn't invest in solar power plants before CPEC came. Even then there is just one, single major solar power station which I hear about in this forum.

According to government data, over $42 billion investment has come to India in clean technologies, including solar, wind, biomass, smart grids, and ESS in last four years.

According to Mercom’s India Solar Tender Tracker, approximately 7 GW of solar capacity was tendered in India in June 2018 and to tender trajectory issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), 30 GW is expected to be tendered in FY 2018-19.

India is tendering just renewable energy alone for just 1 year(2018-2019) of more than total electricity production capacity of pakistan

Should pick on someone your own size.

Really? Are you saying that a lot of senior members here keep masturbating to the thought of Pakistan being better than India in every metric from economy to military to mijjile technology is foolish ?

I agree ..I think a small reason to cheer will come in ten years , when we beat japan in GDP , but otherwise nothing to really brag about ....I believe after that for the next couple of decades we will be in third spot behind USA and china for at least two-three decades , then maybe we'll beat the USA, anyways even that doesn't matter , GDP per capita will still be low

@Karna_007 if India was so good you would not be using two US flags to hide inferiority complex

His grammar is simply atrocious for a person sporting flags from a English speaking country

On the subject matter, Gotta admit India is going forward, No need to be salty about it, Given it will be the most populous nation in few years, With such a humongous market it can sell to the rest of the world it's inevitable it will be one of the largest economies simply given the numbers

It's better for India's neighbors to make use of this development for their own economic growth than be pissed about it

As for the sensationalist headlines dismissing an industrialized country like France that's eons ahead in terms of development in all facets to India, Just another jingoistic narration by the well known Indian media that sans any sense of reality, Just like Bollywood Indian media thrive on the escapism of it's masses
