8ak - Indian Defence News

30 June2010 8ak: Indian Navy (IN) has issued Request for Inquiry (RFI) to acquire new generation aircraft to operate from its aircraft carriers it intends to induct over the next decade. The RFI does not state the number of aircraft it intends to procure.

The RFIs have been issued to global majors, who include Lockheed Martin, Boeing for F/A-18, Eurofighter Typhoon, French Dassault for Rafale, Rosoboronexport for newer Russian MiG or Sukhoi shipboard fighters. The RFI for new shipboard fighters is over and above the 45 MiG-29K fighter aircrafts India has acquired from Russia, 16 of which were ordered along with INS Gorshkov aircraft carrier in 2004.

In the meantime, signaling that U.S. was willing to take its partnership with India to the next level, Orville Prins of Lockheed Martin has stated that it would offer its B and C variant of the F-35 aircraft to the IN. The B version of the F-35 is a short take-off and vertical landing aircraft and the C version is an aircraft carrier-based version.

ARJUN..can JALASWA handle a VTOL version of F-35..?

. .
Well, any Frigate with heli pad must be able to Handle F-35 VTOL... I too have doubt, could anyone clarify? A good Question Indeed:cheers:
if you look the weight of helicopter and f-35 vtol you can easily understand. it can not operate from FFG. But may be im not sure for JALASWA.

.
f-35 is a good fighter but its repairing cost is too high

Not really. F-35B STOVL still needs some maneuverable space while taking off. It cannot practically operate from current configuration of Jalashwa.

INS JALASHWA

However, if we reconfigure the deck of Magar or Jyoti for such operation, then it is quite possible. The deck will be reinforced, reshaped, and free from obstruction.

f 35 is a great plane, but isnt it too expensive?? plus we wont even begin recieving the deliveries till all others member countries have and thats till at least 2018

.
iam wondering where is Gripen, they havent mentioned abt Gripen this time..
Even last time they didnt mention but Gripen showed interest.

Does it still exist in the race?

i dnt understand why IN need new a/c IN already has 16+29 order of Mig-29k + lca naval version come IN want around 50 of those plane and at the time when IAC-2 at 2020 we have Pak-fa naval version ready. and if IN want why not before ready of IAC-2 search start from 2-3 yr before at the time f-35B/C available. I dnt think at that our IN need any new plane.

Migs are for VIKKy and IAC-I...do you seriously want to have N-LCA flying off IAC-II..

About FGFA --in 2020 at max we will have ~30 FGFA in IAF inventory..Plus Chinese will be pouring out their own super quality planes ..so every focus will be on getting FGFA foe IAF..

Only way to get a good plane will be RAFALE with active stealth or, F-35..
although i prefer first option but second also can not be ruled out..

out..
Vikky and IAC-1 both have maximum capacity of around 30 plane include asw helo and othe plane it mean we can only put 20 plane in each ship(IN already order 45 Mig and they want N-LCA around 50 plane) and if IN does not fly N-LCA on their ship so why they want ??? that a big question. also i read some forum that it will be mix of Mig & N-LCA will be fly by both ship. So if you see the total no of plane IN have around 100. and did you think if project like FGFA or pak-fa will be delay 2-3 yr then why not IAC-2 you can see all domestic project running late IAC-1 already 2-3 yr behind schedule.

if you focus on Chinese then we urgently need submarine. also we have shoe base operation su-30mki to counter china. and if i agree with you and IN get these plane with in 5-6 yr then how will we use those plane coze it will be bigger plane and we cannot use it from the limitation of our vikky and IAC-1 so it will be use from shoe base.

why from now when IAC-2 is only on paper rytnow. but if you see it will be available on that time also and at that it will come more easily

F-35 is our only hope for Indian Navy if they are interested in 5th G fighter by 2018-20. FGFA as of now is only planned for airforce also i don't see any possibility for Naval-FGFA for India because it is heavy class and big aircraft. Our future aircraft carriers will not be suited for such heavy fighters.
May be in future India might thing of Naval- AMCA but that to will not be possibility before 2030 as Naval- AMCA is not even planned as of today.
F35 will be our best bet for 5th G- Naval fighter.

About 100 planes..sure we need that many planes because with INS Hansa in place we will have pilots taking off from there as well before graduating to real carriers..Plus as you correctly pointed out we have Su-30 MKI taking off from Shore like Andaman..When Navy will have enough planes , Su-30 will be free and will then be deployed at our eastern boarders..

About F-35 flying from shore..that is very necessary for our pilots to get a feel of the bird. Plus if we select F-35 2 years from now we will be getting delivery from 2022 at earliest...So, this matches with what is the time line of IAC-2..

Having said that i am against F-35..I am all for RAFALE..

you are right f35 will provide us upper hand as compare to our enemy and think how will they counter us while we have pak fa for IAF and f 35 for our navy
