Actually blocking the Strait in wartime would be in China's favor. China can get all its wartime resources, including oil, from overland routes and domestic production.

LOL... Laos, Cambodia and Thailand are our allies. They are not going to shoot down our bombers traversing their airspace.

Do you think 1000 km is far away from a bomber? I guess IAF doesn't have any bombers so you have no idea. Our bombers are intercontinental -- designed to put a payload on Los Angeles from China.

If I'm not mistaken, China's largest oil supplier is Russia, which is supplied overland. But China itself is the 4th or 5th largest oil producer, I believe producing around 4 million barrels per day. These two factors alone, along with the strategic reserve, is enough to guarantee Chinese oil supply.

No one will necessarily fight India. But don't you think shutting down the Strait of Malacca would hurt other countries besides China as well given the trade that passes through? This is a non-strategy ... I believe the Indian government considers this too. India has no strategic benefits of shutting down the strait. It will only play into the Chinese hand.

They are not our enemies either, If anything they are more friendly with India than with China, After all it's not us they have border issues with.

Well, that was actually the other bit that had me, errm, 'amused'.

How this works is not that someone places a chain across the Straits and blocks all traffic. These days, shipping papers can be examined electronically and are authenticated beyond counterfeiting. Only those ships whose papers show an explicitly Chinese destination would be stopped and turned back.
