Justice can only be delivered by prisoners of India. Make the life hell for rapists, child molesters, female baby killers and terrorists in our jails. Hope this message is received by them.

@KRAIT, I've confirmed report from horses mouth that those culprits were beaten badly twice in jail by other prisoners. Police had hard time to save them and now those are locked in special cell away from others

you are talking in terms of power. No powerful nation has ever succeded to destory a country completly neither any civilization. But moral decline to accept social ills surely does drown a society.

Firstly, i think this thread should have never existed here since this is a "DEFENCE" forum for Godsake & it is even a BANNED topic, i am a defence enthusiast & so are many others.

Secondly, i am not brushing anything under the carpet, i & every other Indian here feel sorry for the girl, but i ask u is RAPE or any other crime only an Indian Phenomenon?? Or only a Subcontinental phenomenon?? Doesn't it occur in western countries?? doesn't it occur in rising China?? So, why singling out just one case in India & generalizing it for whole of India??

Thirdly, I feel angered by the people who make any ONE-OFF case & than Generalize it for whole of India & than say this great line "INDIA CAN'T BE SAVED NOW" as if India is so weak a country which will disintegrate by this incident.

Fourthly, I agree that women in India are not given there due RESPECT & EQUALITY they deserve, but i think u are forgetting that the condition was even worst just few decades ago & Indian women are now in much better condition than they were earlier, Sati, Dowry, Pardah systems are no all BANNED by the law. Marriage of a minor girl is also illegal, India was one of first country to give VOTING RIGHTS to women, women are given reservations in govt. institutions & organisations, women in India are now more liberal than ever. Yes, there is still much work to do, but don't forget India is working for betterment of it's women each passing day.

Delhi gang-rape case: "Amanat's" parents bore their ordeal with "courage and fortitude"

Singapore: When the young woman who has been the unwavering focus of India's attention and prayers died at a hospital on Singapore today, her parents were with her.

To afford her education in Delhi, her parents had sold their small piece of land in Uttar Pradesh. When their daughter was fighting for her life in a Delhi hospital, they told Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar who visited with them that they hardly have enough to eat at home. Their meals, they reportedly told her, are often "roti and namak" (bread sprinkled with salt for flavour).

The Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who met with them a few days later said they spoke of their concerns for their two sons, who are both in college. She said she promised them that government would assist in any way it could.

On Wednesday night, the family flew with the student on an air ambulance to a hospital in Singapore known for its expertise in organ transplants. The government had organised passports and visas for the patient and her family in a matter of hours, after the Cabinet cleared a proposal to fly her away if her doctors supported the plan.

By the time the media found about the plans to move her, three ambulances were waiting at her hospital in Delhi, two of which were used as a decoy.

The air ambulance arrived in Singapore on Thursday morning, the end of the journey had been a harrowing one with her blood pressure dropping and doctors performing emergency procedures to stabilise her.

At the Mount Elizabeth hospital in Singapore, a local paper The Straits Times reported that the family used interpreters to communicate with the specialists and staff attending to the student. (Read this story on The Straits Times)

The paper said that the student's father was "shell-shocked" but reassured that the best possible care had been arranged for his child. "Reassured that the best is being done for my daughter, and the rest lies in the hands of God," the father said, according to the report.

I can imagine how expensive the charges will be.. In India itself the hospital bill be exceeded more than 5-10 lakhs minimum.. Hope Govt atleast give them some compensation and pay the hospital charges..

The charges are being completely borne by the Indian government and while the treatment in a government hospital in India can be free, the ad hocism involved in sending this girl to Singapore is troubling raising some very disquieting questions.
