What's new

Indian AWACS thread

It doesn't means that the attack was on Taj. In those days, lights gave the target/city etc location. That's why there used to blackout. A glowing Taj mahal would indicate the location of Agra, and relevent targets nearby.

Exactly!

Taj Mahal has zero military significance. In all of the past wars, neither side has attacked/damaged civilian targets intentionally.

i must say i am impressed......even though that hurts me!!!

Actually friend there is nothing that should hurt india's neighbours. You will see as India grows in its military and economic strength in the coming years, it will become more and more responsible global power.:yahoo:

These are just the measures to keep rogue elements from embarking on a stupid adventure against India or its interests.:azn:

To keep the region peaceful, India needs to be very very powerful.:victory::victory::victory:

India is an irresponsible state which can get into war with Pakistan at any time listening to its cheap masala media. In order to ensure peace in the region and stability..Pakistan will have to have a response for India's advancement in every field..which is good for both of us.

I am not surprised. This was expected.:what::what:

India to buy 3 more AWACS, Heron UAVs from Israel

Akhtar Jamal

Islamabad—India is holding unpublicized talks with Israel to purchase three more Phalcon Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS) at the cost of more than US$1.5 billion.

According to defence observers the secret talks have already reached an advcance level between Indian and Israeli military officialsl but a final decision is expected by mid-May 2010.

Meanwhile the second of the three Israeli-made Phalcon contracted earlier reached India on Thursday evening. According to reports reaching here the second AWACS from Israel arrived in Gujarat and will be deployed in Agra’s Jamnagar air base. It is also learnt that a small group of Israeli defence experts had arrived in India apparently to link up Phalcon with Indian military satellites for enhanced surveillance activities in the region.

India first reached an accord in 2003 deal worth USD 1.1 billion to buy three AWACS from Israel to be incorporated with and mounted on Russian-make IL-76 heavy-lift transport aircraft, of which the first was delivered in May last year.

Since the induction of the first system on May 28 last year it is being operated by the Agra-based 50 squadron and has been carrying out extensive flying operations with India’s frontline fighters such as the Su-30MKI, Mirage-2000 and the Jaguars. The AWACS was also deployed at the recently-held major exercise codenamed ‘Vayushakti’ and controlled the flight operations of over 100 aircraft participating in the massive fire-power demonstration.

According to defence experts India was now considering to link the additional three AWACS with its first military satellite due to be launched by the middle of next year.

Meanwhile India has also reached a secret agreement with Israel’s Aerospace Industries (IAI) last week ordering additional ‘Heron’ MALE (medium-altitude, long endurance) drones, ground control systems and data terminals. The latest deal worth more than Indian Rs 700 crore was signed by the two sides last week but neither side has officially confirmed the accord.

According to a report apart from using Israeli UAVs for spying and directing precision-guided munitions, Indian Air Force is now looking to induct Israeli Harop ‘killer’ UAVs from 2011 onwards.

Harpy and Harop are kamikaze-type UAVs which perish with the targets, Predators and Reapers are more like fighters since return to their bases to get a fresh stock of missiles for new missions.

India has inducted well over 100 UAVs since the 1999 and the latest induction of Heron, Searcher II and Harpy ‘killer’ drones would strengthen further India’s goal to become well-equipped with attacker drones.

India and Israel are also working joint by on a Rs 1.2 crore project to acquire NRUAVs (naval rotary UAVs) or unmanned helicopters operating from warship decks for advanced ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) missions.

this guy is a idiot.it is not unpublicized.yesterday I posted in the phalcon thread that india is going to exercise option of three more before the third one arrives. It is open source knowledge and sensationalism by this idiot.

:rofl::rofl:

Oh my God, Indian secrets revealed. What will we do now? We are doomed.

I am shocked something like this can get published.

DRDO labs have made a better AWACS but additional funds were denied for faster integration onto Embraer aircraft because MoD preferred to focus on "imports" because ministry view is "India will die if we don't imports weapons immediately now".

Same old story. 1.5Billion$ for Israeli imports but zilch for big ticket push to domestic efforts.

Also, increased cost of 1.5Billion$ shows a lottery for babus in MoD who rely on "imports" for income.

The sentiments are noreworthy, but the reality is that a utility in which even USSR lags behind, is going to be cost prohibitive for India to produce in house. We all knew that the first order of 3 was never going to be enough, and I think even now there will be a shortfall for a big country like India. However, maybe you might make a deal with the Israelis to tinker around with their machines and come up with one of your own in due course. It might be a better route to take than going alone where DRDO record has not been a particularly good one.

6 from Israel + 3 our own developed by DRDO.

Total 9 AWACS by 2012.

And more to follow.......

Buddy get your facts right - the program is still on - It first was conceived in the 90s.

We have developed it but it is of lesser range and is similar to the SAAB Erieye. The platform is Brazil's Embraer-ERJ-145 Business Jet modified for the AWACS developed by DRDO. We have already signed a contract for 6 of the ERJ jets for this purpose. How many more funds do we need. We have 2 for now- and 4 more on order. By the time the 4 come in the 3-6 Embraers will be in man. How many more do we want?

It is not that we are not investing in defense projects of our own.

Further I believe it has a 360 degree scanning while the Erieye has a capability of scanning only 300 degrees.

Relax man - we are well on our way and we will be fine by the middle of next decade and a lot of indigenous stuff will be produced. Right now we do not have the money to develop the infrastructure for everything-ofcourse we have limited money.

Thats because MoD has refused to fund 360 degree version because they don't want to increase DRDO's budget but are ready to pay higher costs for 3 more AWACS from Israel.

Also, IAF has delayed DRDO AWACS project first by sitting on project files for 3 years(it took IAF 3 years to tell DRDO what design parameters they want) and now, suddenly IAF is saying - "we have changed our mind now. We don't want Embraer platform. Please re-do whole design and choose a different aircraft."

And, people think that DRDO is to blame. Media is cleverly hiding corruption nexus behind "imports" policy.

Araz - Can you name one sophisticated product like AWACS that Pakistan has made? - Please keep this nonsense to yourself.

Arjun - Not a failure - total 200 more tanks will most likely be ordered based on preliminary reports of the recent trials making a total of 350+ tanks. Rumors are it may go up total of 500 tanks

HAL Tejas - Again not a failure. 40 on order and more will be ordered in Mark 2 config with a better engine.

DRDO NAG - Anti tank missile successfully inducted

DRDO Akash - Successfully inducted

DRDO - ASTRA BVRM to be inducted soon

DRDO PAD AND AAD - To be inducted soon - tests have been successful so far

Any more failures you want to count cos really I DON'T SEE ANY!
