What is so difficult for you to comprehend. Either Indian procurement is inadequate or Indian army chief is a liar.

You are off topic as usual. We are talking about Indian procurement and incompetence here

buddy the best way to find out weather the indian army chief is a liar or not is that you go on an all out war with india , and confirm it for yourself , why depend on others .

Indian still need to Buy ammunition from overseas?

indian army has to request ministry of defence before ordering anything from Indian military industry or abroad... india has defence manufacturing spread all over india and now even private cos are stepping in.. and we also are the largest importer of weapons which we get with TOT agreements where these techs are shared with govt. military industries and all with indian private companies..

General was indirectly asking for speedy decisions by ministry and more money...

When an accident occurred in one or two of our ammunition dumps some years ago,I remember news report that the total ammunition that went up in smoke was the total ammunition of many small countries...so I will take this 2 days ammunition supply with a pinch of salt.

Gen VK Singh writes to Antony, lists issues ‘degrading’ Army capability

Army Chief General V K Singh has written to Defence Minister A K Antony that the war-waging capability of the Army has been “seriously degraded” with the government dragging its feet on critical procurements and policy measures.

The detailed letter sent last month points out 10 critical issues that the Army has been pushing for the past two years, which need to be addressed urgently to regain the combat edge of the force.

Sources said the letter was followed by a presentation by the Director General of Military Operations to senior defence ministry officials earlier this week, detailing the 10 thrust areas.

Some of the issues raised by the Army are:

Ammunition: Depleting ammunition reserves and the slow pace of modernisation, especially in areas like artillery and air defence. Several cases of procurement of artillery and armoured ammunition have hit roadblocks due to the blacklisting of firms. Critical purchases of ammunition have been pending for over five years.

Cyber battalions: The Army has urged the ministry to grant permission for setting up of new cyber battalions of the Territorial Army (TA) to rope in young talent from the private sector. The proposal has been pending for the past two years.

National Counter Insurgency School (NCIS): Little progress had been made in the establishment of an institute to train and raise specialized troops to take on insurgents. While land had been earmarked in areas affected by the Naxal problem, there has been little progress in setting up of the school that would train paramilitary forces as well as Army troops for counter-insurgency operations. Project has been pending for close to two years.

T72 tank barrel: The slow procurement process to replace the barrel of the T72 fleet which is the backbone of the Army’s armoured might has seriously degraded combat capability. The Army has been trying for the past decade to procure new 125 mm smoothbore barrels for its 1,600 T 72s without success. The procurement was initialized after several indigenously produced barrels burst during firing. An RFP for the replacement remains outstanding.

Arjun tank: While the ministry has been pushing for larger orders of the indigenous tank for the Army, the letter has pointed to the technical problems in the tank which are standing in the way of bulk orders.

Earlier last year, the Army shared with the defence ministry and the National Security Council its assessment that in case of a full-scale war on the western front, reserves of most critical ammunition would not last even two days.

The ministry is believed to have taken the Army Chief’s letter seriously, prompting the detailed presentation by the DGMO earlier this week. While the ministry has issued some instructions after the presentation, it remains to be seen what can be achieved as the deadline to spend funds earmarked for this financial year approaches rapidly. Sources said that with several critical procurements projects hitting roadblocks, the bulk of the Army’s capital budget remains to be spent.

The indian army has it's strong points and it's weaknesses - the general is just showing the world, what many in our Intel community have known for a while.

it goes vice versa even if you dont mention

Wow, India is running out of ammunition AND Pakistan is not on its War on Terror (since 2001)....

That is not possible. I think Indian defence officials are making fool out of their government... Already they are spending Billions on random stuff and that too on overseas things.

New Delhi: The India army is seriously short of ammunition, and in the event of war, it may run out of stocks in two days. This has been highlighted in a letter written by Army Chief General VK Singh to Defence Minister AK Antony, reported by the Indian Express.
Whats wrong here? Why is the Gen writing this letter NOW when he's about to retire? He had his whole tenure as COAS to consider and act upon such shortcomings, if any.
This report for ammo lasting two days is simply too absurd to believe.

When a war starts with pakistan, Our Israeli friends will send tons of Ammo immediately.

On one hand, you guys have prematurely declared yourselves a superpower (on PDF ) and on the other hand you are relying on Israel for the most basic ammo. Not very befitting of SooPEr PUwEr, in my opinion.

Its funny to see all these ambitious youngsters acting more informative than the general himself.

Mr. bangBRo said once other thread that war against China will be a long one, with munitions for only 2 days, dude you gonna ought to find a better strategy to fight a war of Attrition against China and refine your theory of long duration battle...
