Good news for India, so with all these money going to imports of WMD, we will still see India lagging in terms of health care, basic education, no hygiene and toilets, top the world list of street defeacation, increased gap between rich and poor, more corruption given that black money continues to be poured by the arm suppliers to the Indian intemediaries, no indigeneous arms industry and the farmers will still be impoverished by the recent hike in raw material. Go on India, continue to be the NO 1 arms importer and continue to stockpile western weaponry leaving your population stranded in abject poverty and crippling infrastructure with no capacity to even organize a regional event (Shameful Delhi CWG whereby India has shame itself with poor infrastructure, disease and human faecal in the village games), no capacity to host even the 2060 Olympic games and World expo. Go on to be the no 1 arms importer, this is something to be very proud of for a nation with 800 Million poor and 60 Billionaires. By contrast China in the coming years will have zero import in terms of weaponry thanks to the current western embargo and it will export more thanks to the burgeoning indigeneous Chinese weapons development. India will alwyas be the No1 world weapons importers, a good news for the forthcoming Chinese economic hegemony to be the No 1 world economic power.

First of all, may I request you to understand the meaning of WMD? From the strict terminological interpretation, conventional weaponry does not classify as WMD.

This shows the wealth India is generating .. A mere 1.8% of GDP is allocated on defence.
Projects such as LCA, Arjun, LCH, Dhruv, Brahmos, FGFA, MCA, AGNI series, Akash, Aircraft carriers, Submarines, Nuclear defence... is funded by the same money. A part of what is left is used to import. India insists on 30% offsets to bring the money back into its economy. India is also ensuring ToT in most projects that enables India to build a technology base for building on what it buys.

its ok to take side but giving the whole list to bash other country every time in same way without any specific reason just for friendship is something different.
then both friends also deserve the same bashing from others.

i think becoming the largest arms importer is reflecting few qualities about india

1. uneasiness with the approach pakistan and especially china has taken towards india in viewing it as a major player in world forum. military is one way to convince them
2. increase in the area of responsibilty in south asia
3. increased money in govt coffers
4. strategic ambitions

since the rate of R&D in india is way to low than the demand of armed forces then this was bound to happen. i think india should look at more joint projects and make them base platforms for indigenous projects.
