Well at least the USSR had lots of natural resources and a small population and hence could escape the hardship (money wise) but it would be a different story for India who doesn't have much natural resources and have a huge population to feed.

All our defense spending is roughly 1.8% of our GDP, and we have a sound economy compared to the then USSR. So the defense spending can't be termed as blind, and nor we are going to get financially broke in the coming couple of centuries.

I would be surprised if India would go broke so soon by buying some weapons and weapons platforms.

In so far as giving job opportunities to the West, at least India can do that. Something that should not be surprising because it is always good to give a helping hand.

Of course, the alternative would be to flinch the technology by surreptitious means, but then that would not be ethical more so what with copyright and patents being serious these days.

I believe some countries don't believe in such niceties and churn foreign copies as 'original., be it weapons or commercial products like cars and computers et al,

thanks for the concern. you will be well advised to reserve your sympathy to those countries who beg & borrow money from rest of the world to buy fighter planes, keep it's military & economy on the float!! there is more chance of disintegration of those countries well before india's!!

I think China is the new USSR as its COMMUNIST...great CIVIL UNREST UNDER THE CARPET..all INdia needs to do is to engage China in a war against US...and the watch it secretly going down...but that will be brutal as the lives of billion plus innocent oppressed Chinese people will be affected.

Why should one believe that the US' statements are Gospel Truth?

Indians I don't think that everything that the Americans say is so.

I believe that they have not been conditioned to believe so.
