India-Turkey to hold joint war exercises off Mumbai coast

New Delhi, Jul 6 (PTI) Enhancing their defence ties, Navies of India and Turkey will engage each other in two-day wargames off the coast of Mumbai starting Sunday.

"Four ships of the Turkish Navy will arrive at the Mumbai port tomorrow as part of their deployment in the Indian Ocean region (IOR) and will participate in the two day exercise with our us," Navy officials said here.

The four ships are part of the Combined Task Force 151 anti-piracy coalition and have been deployed in the Gulf of Aden.

After the port call, the Turkish ships will take part in the passage exercise on July 10 where the two sides will undertake anti-submarine warfare and coordinated attack drills, they said.

The Turkish Navy contingent includes three frigates including TCG Barbaros and TCG Geliboli along with the tanker TCG YBK Gangur and are coming to India .

The Indian Navy will field its destroyer INS Mumbai along with Beas class frigates INS Brahmputra and INS Betwa.

The exercise is taking place soon after Navy chief Admiral Nirmal Verma visited Turkey for four days last month.

Navy sources said Turkey has a strong shipping industry and there is great potential for partnership between the two countries in areas of shipbuilding.

Great news indeed. It will not only strengthen the relation but also will enable both countries to improve their skill.I think navy should involve in such excercises more frequently.
REGARDS....

Good news... I heard they are willing to sell us some defense equipment, is it true ?? And what can they offer to us, i mean any specific defence equipment from turkey ?

India needs to/is building these strategic relationships all over the world. Just look at this week- A.K Antony in Krygistan announcing defence and economic partnerships. Aswell as the Arab world- SA, Oman (who offered berthing rights for IN ships and made INSAS standard weapon of their Army),Kuwait as well as Africa where PM MMS recently visited. India truly is coming of age and adapting a "soft power" approach similar to US and seems to be working- many African countries are sick of some Chinese practices such as only using their own workers and see such forays as selfish gains for China and no interest in helping the world.

Turkish navy is one of the best navy in their region ......

It would be interesting to see both navies doing some action ....

later if someone gets some picture or any stuff ... please bring down here....

India should organise and host Multi-lateral exercises similar to Malabar involving regional navies such as Japan, Turkey, SL, SA etc and should continue to forge its identity as a regional/global power. But should take initiative first.

its not about cooperation...its Turkey gauging india's military capability....

No it's really isn't about that. It's about military co-operation. This is going to be a friendly exercise not a competition. An anyways are you saying Turkey is a challenger to India? Everyone knows India already is more capable than Turkey militarily but anyway it is nothing to do with that. You are just upset your Muslim "brother" isn't loyal enough for you.

Give me one good reason why? And why spend millions of $ for gauging an enemy who they are not going to fight for the next 15 years?
