India to Supply Bangladesh Railways with 120 LHB Coaches in Indian Railways' Biggest Export Order

When were first LHB design coaches made by ICF?

These will be all metre gauge right? Or does Bangladesh use broad gauge?

Will any of these coaches be used in Maitree express from Bangladesh side?
Both meter gauze and broad gauze are in use,some of them are dual gauze.In the western side of country broad gauze is common while meter gauze is confined to eastern side of country.Out of 2835 km total railway track around 1000 km is broad gauze.

Railway was very neglected mode of transportation in Bangladesh. BD added only around 100 km tract since 1947.Although we should have 10,000 km railway line considering our population.Journey is also very sluggish and time consuming.But recently it is getting attention by the govt. and we are seeing improvement in both expansion and quality.:-)

Actually it is not possible to replace all coaches with LHB ones since they have a significant drawback - they are not self power-generating and a train with LHB only coaches like Shatabdi Express has two generator cars, one at each ends to generate power - which in turn increases cost and reduces revenue/passengers and thus is not possible in many trains like the local trains.

LHB Coaches are being modified for the same purpose - ICF manufactured LHB Coaches have been upgraded from their original German versions - Shatabdi's LHB coaches were modified as ICF devised permanent magnet alternators since the dimensions of LHB coach did not let power generators attached to the wheels - It is in prototype phase but might be used for Shatabdi only -

Even if we have to replace all possible coaches with LHB ones - it will probably take more than a decade - the old ICF coaches will be in production at least till 2020. On the other hand the production of LHB coaches is increasing but not a pace to replace all possible coaches with LHB ones in the near future and neither is their plan to do so - Integral Coach Factory produced a record number of 1,704 coaches during the last fiscal including 239 DEMU coaches, 300 air-conditioned coaches and only 65 LHB coaches.

ICF would manufacture 285 LHB coaches in financial year 2015-16 and 600 such coaches in FY 2016-17.

DMRC operate metro not manufacture, its Bombardier who export to Australia. Only Indian company who manufacture metro rolling stock is BEML & two other Medha Servo & Titagarh Wagon start soon.

And please , why so much silly tagging as our Railways are ancient & if Chinese start tagging you in their HSR threads ?
