What's new

India to retire first Kilo-class submarine this year

If they do not do a second mid life refit on the last three Kilos that do not have it, by around 2028 PN will have parity or near parity with India on conventional Subs. 3 A90Bs + 8 Hangor V 6 Scorpenes + 4 Type 209s+ 3 Kilos. Whats more none of these have AIP, and the Type 209s are now almost 40 years old. 7 of India's subs will be amongst the oldest in service anywhere in the world.

The last three are recently upgraded or going to upgrade:

L&T was chosen by the Russian shipbuilder Sevmash to be its Indian partner in the refit project. While the first of the four Kilo class subs will go to the Russian Zvezdochka shipyard for inspection and refit, the remaining three are likely to be modernized at the Kattupalli shipyard. The first of the submarines to be modernized at private yard, a first for India, will go in by 2017, An order for 2-3 more submarines could also be commissioned, depending on ongoing acquisition plans of the Indian Navy.[9][10][11]

7 kilos are not going anytime soon.

So it will be 7 Kilos + 6 Scorpences + 4 Type 209 submarines = Total 17 submaries

Due to china, the focus has shifted from conventional to nuclear Submarines

Before 2030, India will have active minimum 3 arihant class SSBM (2 + 1 improved version), 1 Akula class from Russia.

And, 1 SSN submarine (In trial or active)

Great to know kilos will stay here for a while..... It's still a backbone of our submarine fleet.....

China is still operating Romeo copies while India is already retiring her Kilo subs. This is a strong indication that India is ahead of China in submarine technology.

India retiring Kilo = ahead, India retiring everything = more ahead.

Meanwhile I also understand India has some very creative doctrine like leaving hatches open for faster and more sustained dives.

This will be second upgrade of Kilos, both these and Type 2092 are what? 40 year old subs? Can they even be classed as front line?

And, what you say about 2 A90B ......30 years old (after 2028) ----- Can they classed as frontline? please do not come and say that since PN is operating the, Yes...

Indian kilo which Myanmar purchased is for training purposes primarily and along with that it's secondary task is to patrol and ensure maritime security of Myanmar...... Kilo armed with Klub cruise missile can easily guarantee that against Bangladesh or Thailand.....

This all will train Myanmar crew perfectly till the time they receive their much better equipped and armed brand new Kilos or Amurs from Russia ..... Smart move by Myanmar.....

Nice efforts..... First you make statement on Turkish forum asking Turkey to join AMCA project and here now you are saying India ahead of china in submarine technology..... Nice efforts to invite trolling against India.... Keep it up....
You talk like as if you are the defence minister of Myanmar. You can't say what they will buy without solid proof.

No, PN does not operate these as frontline, but in training role. PN strength will be 8 Hangor and 3 Agosta 90B. All with AIP.

There is a second Indian conventional submarine project guys called Project 75 Alpha, which is the Indian Navy's domestic designed/built submarine force, six in total.
Thats Nuclear Submarines, 6 Nuclear Attack Submarines SSNs.

Brother only in for Training role they are training new sailors in PLAN, they are not doing any patrolling in South China sea or going deep in the pacific ocean

I said about your two Agosta 90B, that will be older than 30 years after 2028...

Firstly you will then be comparing 50 year old subs with 30 year old subs

Secondly it's 3 A90Bs not 2

Finally these haver all gone or are going through a very extensive uopgrade, pretty much making them on par or more sophisticated then IN Scorpenes. These are all AIP fitted, no Indian conventional sub is.

By 2028 PN will have 8 more Hangor subs (all AIP fitted too).

Try and learn some facts before debating me, then you may look less foolish.

Firstly - I knew that but one is a little newer than the same reason I said - two subs that are older.

Secondly - how are you sure that Indian submarines are not being very extensive upgrades, pretty much making them on par or more sophisticated then-latest Chinese conventional sub?

Please do not fire in the air and provide the proper technical source if you claim anything!
-----------------
AIP only allows submarines to submersed more than conventional sub and does not give any other technical advantage. We are having and will be having nuclear submarines for a longer period of deployments.

AIP gives conventional subs a marked advantage over non conventional, it's the very reason India is trying to develop it's own AIP solution.

Not debating endurance of nuke subs at all,

I already said about endurance! I also said about technology as you are claiming that A90Bs is far and more sophisticated than IN Scorpenes.

The same claim I can make that an upgraded kilo submarine is far and more sophisticated than your upcoming new subs.

But, The only fact is that Scorpenes is one generation ahead to A90Bs. Technological one of the advanced present available submarines.

AIP does not make difference in India and Pak WAR scenario. Kilo-class sub endurance is around 60 hours without a recharge..
