India seeks full membership of SCO

When you have 2 states one a member and another an observer that have some of the largest reserves of oil in the world (Russia and Iran) along with members that are energy rich central states, the main concern is security of the black gold....
Whether it comes from the OIC or the Oil rich Iran...security of this oil is the main concern.....

OIC will trade oil to the Chinese and Russians no matter what...because its business....and if it doesnt, that will be because of the US and Pakistan does not have enough influence as a non muslim country like the US has in the Organization of Islamic Countries....LOL!

On the other hand, the advantage of India comes in the form of its strong navy that has vast experience in anti-piracy missions....Pakistani navy is more a defensive navy aimed at protecting the coastline...India will play a key role in protecting any oil that comes through the Arabian Sea..

And lets be honest, one cannot expect that India will just play ball to Chinese ships roaming around freely in the Arabian Sea without taking India on board.

FYI: India has more influence over Iran than Pakistan and will come in handy when bringing Iran on board if Iran's oil sources are to be tapped....

Why do you need Gwadar when another observer nations Iran has a port in the form of Chahabar that is closer to the ME (where oil comes from) and has better infrastructure with rail and road connecting to Afghanistan....This can be leveraged for better transportation if the road is extended further into CARs and China...

Furthermore Chahabr does not pose the same security issues as going through Pakistan's Gwadar that is bang in the south of Balochistan which is currently facing a seperatist struggle (one that the PA has not been able to rope in) and has elements of Taliban....

From a security perspective, this does not bode as a good option just yet....at least not until Pak is rid of its extremist problem

Are you underestimating India's energy need? Any day the Indian market outranks Pakistan in terms of economic benefit....

I stand by my statement....thanks for trying to convince though

Pakistan can help the oil and goods faster to China, more importantly, through Pakistan, China's trade and energy channel allows to avoid the Indian Ocean.

if pakistan and India become members of SCO,even then we r enemies..any day we could go for war....

Lol SCO or any SOC can't stop that.....

Then SCO might get split,Russia supporting India & China supporting Pakistan.

No free lunch, Pakistan is the case, china too. the rights and obligations are clear, and some separatism risk are not worth mentioning compared to the sea dangerous.

Why do you want to bring all of your bickering into the SCO?

Do you want the SCO to turn out like SAARC?

Maybe that is the plan all along.

Pakistan can help the oil and goods faster to China, more importantly, through Pakistan, China's trade and energy channel allows to avoid the Indian Ocean.

But I clearly presented a better option in Chahabar that is more economical wrt distance, security and infrastructure cost....

Plus, avoiding Indian ocean doesnt mean you can avoid India.....The Arabian sea falls along the coast of India and the SCO will need Indian navy to secure this oil....Pakistani navy cannot bear the burden of anti-piracy missions and India wont allow rival navies to create presence in Arabian Sea....

Hence India's role in energy security will be pivotal...

LOL, we were "invited" in by your own neighbours, who don't want SAARC to be dominated by India.

Does it mean, if our neighbors invite you to jump into the well..you will jump into the well??..you do have mind of your own??!!...afterall it is a bickering, useless organisation..why would you want be part of it?

As a favour to your neighbours who invited us? Because being in it, is at least slightly better than not being in it?

The rest of the world wants to move on. Just look at China and Japan, two historical enemies, we now have the largest bilateral economic relationship in all of Asia. With almost zero chance of a military conflict.

Yet you guys in South Asia are still sending militants over the borders to shoot up public places. That is not an attitude that should be involved in an Asian "cooperation" organization.

I think Pakistan should join the SCO first, since they are being backed by both China and Russia. Whether or not India joins later, remains to be seen.

So bottom line is you want be a part of it, but are just cribbing for the sake of it !!..rest all are tangential excuses.

India is a reason to avoid, as long as the can to avoid the major impact of the Indian Navy, it is safe enough. The other channel, Pakistan Navy and the Chinese Navy (future) ability to protect. Of course, if the Chinese have strong Navy, such as the ten aircraft carriers, then the threat of the Indian Navy will not be so important, but the threat of force the U.S. Navy is still large enough, so a safe trade route is not a bad thing.

Moreover, there are economic interests and regional security issues, they are almost equally important and safe passage, if not more important.

If we are partners, India has a good role, but, sir, our relationship is not so sweet.

Im sorry Huzihaidao12, Im unclear on what you're trying to convey....Can you please explain if possible?

I misunderstood, I mean, even if China can get the energy in Central Asia, Arabia and Africa's energy is still important, so security trade route security remains important.

But Sir it is China that has started the String of Pearls.

Do I not have a right to be concerned that India will be bringing their "Pakistan issues" in with them?

Luckily, China has a veto over both the SCO membership and the UNSC.
