What's new

India’s Frigate with BrahMos almost ready

Even in Kolkata class the missile is launched through Vertical launch system. This is not the first warship. As the INS Kolkata is expected to join the forces before this Frigate.

BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile - Army Technology
This frigate will join with in few month, most probably middle of this year but Kolkata class only in next year and i expect further delays as Barak-8 LR-SAM is not ready yet.

second point, I think is true. Can you give the source for that ?
I couldnt find any source now but I am sure it is VLS Shtil-1 and I am following these news from start when the deal was signed in 2006. We need to wait one more month.

.
^^^there are many warhsips where the missile is launched vertically...talking specifically about brahmos..even INS ranvir launched brahmos vertically very recently which is already in service unlike Kolkata.... but this frigate has a dedicated Brahmos VLS launchers. (?? kinetic)

Actually it will be the first ship to get VL SAM. Earlier SAMs had 3S-90 launchers.

By dedicated Brahmos VLS, i mean these ships are designed to have Brahmos unlike earlier Rajput class destroyers (like INS Ranvir) which was modified near the helipad to make space for Brahmos.

.
Yes this will be the first frigate integrated with Brahmos from start :victory:

Description:
The Project 11356 is a guided-missile frigate designed to counter surface ships, submarines and airborne targets operating alone or embedded into convoys. Due to the use of stealth technologies and a special hull design, the resulting frigate features reduced radar cross section (RCS) as well as electromagnetic, acoustic and infrared signatures. Equipped with state-of-the-art Russian-made sensors and weapon systems, the Project 11356 frigate is a modern ship with balanced capabilities capable of countering modern Western naval assets.

The ship's propulsion system comprises a two-shaft gas-turbine plant each developing 28,000-hp of power which allows for a top speed of 30-kt and an economic speed of 14 knots. The ship's maximum range at economic speed is approx. 5,000 nautical miles. The electric power is provided by four 800Kw WCM800/5-type diesel generators. The cornerstone of the advanced sensors provided to the Project 11356 frigate is the Fregat M2EM air/surface surveillance radar. A flight deck and hangar allow operation of one Ka-28 or Ka-31 helicopter.

The Project 11356 frigate is equipped with the Shtil-1 medium range air defense system with 24 9M38 missiles and one 3S-14E eight-tube under-deck launcher with eight 3M-54TE/Club-N supersonic anti-ship missiles. In addition, the ship is provided with one 100mm AK-190 naval gun with 500 rounds, two Kashtan close-in weapon systems with 64 9M311-1 missiles, RBU-6000 12-tube anti-submarine warfare (ASW) mortar, and two 533mm torpedo tubes. Additional protection is provided with the ship's ECM and decoy systems.

The Indian government and the government of Russia signed a follow-on contract for the purchase of three additional Project 1135.6 frigates for the Indian Navy on July 14, 2006. These ships will be built at Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad. The first frigate is scheduled for delivery in April 2011. These ships will feature BrahMos supersonic anti-ship cruise missile instead of the Club-N/3M54TE missile system which was provided to the INS Talwar, INS Trishul and INS Tabar frigates.

Excellent news.

But these are not the first warships with Brahmos. Kolkata class already is equipped with those killers.

Kolkata class frigates are stealth frigates, right?

And IN is inducting Brahmos in every vessels these days, gonna give the necessary bang to Navy's power projection.

. . .
WoW!!! :yahoo:

When inducted it will be the most powerful surface combatant of the Indian Navy.

This year three frigates will be inducted into the navy.

Are you sure? More lethal than the Shivalik class?

. .
As far as I know they are fitted 'for but not with' Brahmos. I'm not sure if they have been fitted with the Brahmos or are still using Klubs.

INS Shivalik was commissioned with Klub missiles in VLS configuration. But the class is deigned for Brahmos. May be that will be a retrofit. BTW, the Teg and Shivaliks are analogues of the same design. India was involved with Russia in the design of the Type 11356 frigate, which is based on the original Krivak class.

.
Every new Warship now being built is Brahmos compatible and they are the primary AShM onboard.

There's quite a difference between being fitted to be compatible with brahmos and being fitted with brahmos. In the former the ship still has to go under a refit. And as far as I know this is the case with INS Shivalik.

.
So we have Brahmos to attack and Barat 8 soon will be our defence weapon in future if im not mistaken this is quite lethal.
