India negotiating with Russia to upgrade 194 Su-30MKIs to Super Sukhoi Standards for $8bn

.
what kind of up gradation will take part related to engine problems.

New engine

By doing so India will sort out availability issue of rest of the fleet till fully upgraded with regards to engine. More spares will be available for serviceability. But yet it's not official

Most probably su35 engines

Talks was started 10 years ago during congress regim and delivery will be started if within two years than 12 years old planes will be yours and after modification to carry latest weapons.

Trivialising a deal at a layman's level for brownie points is fine, but when one thinks at a slightly more mature level then one would realise that all the big names in fighter aviation are still vying for the contract.. grippen, dasault, euro fighter consortium, Russian, LM, Boeing..you name it and they are there.

I agree though that Certain government upheavals, parameter changes, terms, certain change in laws..etc has delayed proceedings for a while. But everyone knows and the process and respects it.

Fighter plane like Su-30 MKI cannot have the availability above 80%, no matter what you do. Reasons

1, The engine is huge and twin, with TVC nozzle
2. MKI have tandem seater arrangement, that means double maintenance of cockpits, sensors, instruments.
3. Huge Radar on its nose almost 500 KG wt, with movable antenna which needs more maintenance.
4. Bigger plane means needs more inspection of the cracks, and fatigue on the airframe.

Nor do these planes are meant to be flown at short notice, because the cost per hour it is airborne is many times more than the smaller planes like MIG-21 Bison, Mirage 2000 H.

I will take the availability rate of 55% as good one during peace time and would suggest the ussage of LIFT (May be LCA trainer) with its LCD display program to mimic the MKI instruments, instead of usage of MKI for the training purpose, thus increasing the technical life of the MKI and cutting the training cost.

U havE monyey
After acceptance of Indian appeal for charitable discount in Rafale price the French President Hollande grant the charity in price 7.89 billion Euros But India wants more charity as a final discount of nearly 1,50,000 Euros . In a result The French not only rejected the Indian request for bank guarantee Now Make in India gone.TOT to India gone.
The revised Rafale deal does not call for any production in India since the jets would be purchased off-the-shelf.
its call the Indian begging to French Govt.

You should visit the Rafale sticky thread in Indian Defence Section for Update.

Initial 36 Rafale off the shelf does not means, it won't be build in India as license production because the requirement is big 189 birds for IAF alone, and if INAF also selected Rafale-M then add 40 more.

where is the answer of post #52 ???

LOLZ, the answer to your question is that there is a difference between Negotiation and Military Aid. Hope you have done negotiation in your life while purchasing some item from the market, that does not qualify as Begging.

Aircraft maintenance checks:

QUOTE:

Inspections are visual examinations and manual checks to determine the condition of an aircraft or component. An aircraft inspection can range from a casual walk around to a detailed inspection involving complete disassembly and the use of complex inspection aids.

A check
This is performed approximately every 400-600 flight hours or 200–300 cycles (takeoff and landing is considered an aircraft "cycle"), depending on aircraft type. It needs about 150-180 man-hours and is usually on the ground in a hangar for a minimum of 10 hours.

B check
This is performed approximately every 6-8 months. It needs about 160-180 man-hours, depending on the aircraft, and is usually completed within 1–3 days at an airport hangar.

C check
This is performed approximately every 20–24 months or a specific amount of actual flight hours or as defined by the manufacturer. This maintenance check is much more extensive than a B check, requiring a large majority of the aircraft's components to be inspected. This check puts the aircraft out of service and until it is completed, the aircraft must not leave the maintenance site. It also requires more space than A and B checks.

D check
This is by far the most comprehensive and demanding check for an airplane. It is also known as an IL or "heavy maintenance visit" (HMV). This check occurs approximately every 6 years. It is a check that more or less takes the entire airplane apart for inspection and overhaul. Even the paint may need to be completely removed for further inspection on the fuselage metal skin. Such a check can generally take up to 50,000 man-hours and 2 months to complete, depending on the aircraft and the number of technicians involved. It also requires the most space of all maintenance checks, and as such must be performed at a suitable maintenance base. The requirements and the tremendous effort involved in this maintenance check make it by far the most expensive, with total costs for a single D check in the million-dollar range.

Russians go slow, Sukhoi fleet in trouble

http://www.sunday-guardian.com/news/russians-go-slow-sukhoi-fleet-in-trouble

shocking 50% of the Indian Air Force's (IAF's) Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter fleet is on the ground due to unresolved servicing issues with the aircraft's Russian manufacturers. This has also eroded the combat capability of India's frontline long-range strike aircraft and compromised even that part of the fleet which is capable of being flown.
