'India may have competitive edge over China'

China won't suffer a breakup. At worst, we'll have a military coup. The Han majority controls the army and can militarily crush any minority uprisings. What about India, where different states have different languages and there are multiple armed uprisings? Where the army is composed of multiple different races?

China 20 years back was superior to India TODAY in many ways, including literacy and nutrition.

The issues of China being worse than India? India starves millions of people to death per year. What could possibly be more severe than such a holocaust of the poor?

Remember, in India, the serious movement is in Kashmir valley, while Tibet and Xinjiang, constitutes one third of China. Military cannot go on crushing people indefinitely

Anyway, let us not derail the thread. This thread is not about Arab springs and breakups.

Half of the population in Xinjiang is Han.

So there is no merit in any predictive reports? (hard to do economic planning without them you know) or more simply they are meritless when you don't like their conclusions?

Yes, there is no merit in 'predictive reports' based on assumptions and heresay. And you are mistaking a studied planning process based on previous years' experiences with pure speculation of multiple future scenarios. There is a difference there, if only you could see that.

As for liking speculations, I do like fairy tales with good endings ;)

Oh hell let him believe what he wants about China. What he thinks is hardly going to affect reality.

Interesting. How is it OK to accept outsiders to provide an accurate picture of India without as much as accepting the complexity of the nation let alone trying to put a finger on its pulse, while the same outsiders' picture of China is derided as they being unable to understand Chinese culture and mindset? Double standards, eh? FYI for all that diversity you claim to be China, you absolutely have nothing compared to diversity that is India. And yet, you want us to accept this RAND corporation's report about a future only because they speculate that China will do far better than India? Based on what? Heresay?

Ha!

You are pretty good at toeing the party line if they coincide with Rising India! and America Strong!/America Beacon of all that is good in this world.

But it is pretty easy to accept orthodoxy if they favour the the country of your origin and the country of your residence/investment, but are you brave enough to examine the contrarian indicators?

A bit of good news for China. It seems that private business funding input to research (blue section) is fast out stripping government funding input (red section). This is a sign of a thriving private R&D sector.

GERD is usually decomposed into four performing sectors: business (BERD), government (GOVERD), higher education (HERD), and private nonprofit (PNPERD).

Rate of growth of Scientific publications and references

This is not total number of paper, but rate of growth per year of the number of publications. The US still leads in number of total, though has been near zero growth.

This isn't predictive data this is historical trends. How do you explain the piss poor performance of India in the places where it should excel?

Last I heard, only socialist/single party regimes have a well funded propaganda machinery. Unfortunately for you, India does not and being a multi-party democracy, there are multiple visions for the country. I do not subscribe to anyone of them in particular - you see, we have being taught to think freely, unlike some others - who have very limited view points.

Quality over quantity. As for some other ares, I have no problem in accepting the poor policies of our government. Democracy mate - everyone walks away unhappy for things they didnt get, but happy that they got something and others' didnt get what they wanted! You get what you need not what you want.

The freer the society the more important propaganda is. I know whatever I say is not going matter much to you, but I honestly hope you can understand this basic dichotomy between the need for media control and a free society.

If you just think I'm an sshole, that's fine but I at least want to plant this concept in your mind. Maybe it'll be some use to you later in life.

That is a contradiction. You think, free societies - which espouse free thinking - have a need for propaganda, a need to control their media? Surely, sir you must be joking.

I do not judge you, I just respond to your posts. Btw, IMHO, that concept is wrong. I agree not.

This is not a contradiction. In Franco's fascist Spain, they allowed bookstores (the internet of their day) to sell whatever they wanted, socialist or democratic literature, whatever. But they had to pass the execution block in the centre of town, to get to the bookstore.

The message was, you can read or say whatever you wanted, as long as you don't challenge the power structure. That's what was important. That you don't challenge the existing power structure in your country. Be honest, have you ever done that? Hell it's easy to look your noses up at human rights abuses that you can't do a thing about, any Stalinist hack would have whined about the crimes of the capitlist world, but I would hardly applaud those people as brave. I'd applaud the Soviet dissents who were truely against the crimes of the system.

You are the equivalent of the Stalinist hacks.
