What's new

India has expressed its desire to buy one Mistral-class ship and build three more at home

Highly unlikely ! I am not sure how this ship fits into the IN naval doctrine ? I don't think India has ever operated a heli carrier !

Indian Navy ke achhe din a gaye hai.

lol true and despite getting lower share in all three forces the IN acquisitions and construction of new war ships is moving at satisfactorily rate except Scorpene subs

I'll believe it when I see it.

India is usually never flexible nor pragmatic enough to take advantage of such opportunities, the Chinese on the other hand.....

But the Chinese can't buy these due to arms embargo.

India can build LPDs, buying one Mistral and building more at our shipyards is a good thing. If they can get a bargain price.

First we need 5 to 6 Shipyards which can handle , repair, build and maintain Huge warships.

This should be clear for once and all.

1.Indian Navy wants Amphibious ships and Mistral along with Juan Carlos, BAE are front runners.

But these 2 Mistrals will never see induction in Indian Navy
Because.

" They are not built with a conventional shaft and propeller propulsion system which is a must for Indian Navy requirements but they have Azimuthal Thrusters which are modern but not reliable enough. And refitting these ships with desired systems will be damm too costly."

2. If If India bought the ship it will be most likely leased out to a third nation.

Is there any official statement from MoD or its just a media hike ?

no need to buy every defence hardware up for sale...we should follow our need as per priority and I am damn sure, Heli Carrier is not on the top priorities for Indian Navy!
