wonderful projects we are far behind i guess

^^

Race? Competition?

10 yrs. back Pak had better urban infra., Indian cities were huge, land grab, stinking cess-pools.

It's not a completion nor race, unless you insist. Development phase is different, I like Pak., and this thread showcases Indian projects with a hell of a lot less ppl. than the ground reality.

Then there is the record breaking growth Vs. low level civil strife in Pak. Sad :-)! in the past 25 yrs.

Back in 2003 we had 3 rapid transit systems (kolkata, chennai, delhi),WTC mumbai was the tallest in south asia(since 1980),Nariman point was the highest commercial real estate rental space in the world in 1995,BEST was indeed the BEST back in 1980s-The same could be said for air India back then.We also had electrified rail tracks and high power electric locomotives.Better infra than this??They doesnt have this even today!!

The reason is that we don't mix religion into everything and we are secular and.................one.

If you look at the pic you will realize that a bearded Muslim with cap is operating under the command and control center of Delhi Metro.

It shows India's diversity, unity and secularism.
:smokin:

Proud to be Indian

It is a fact that till the late 1980s, Pakistan was ahead of India on most social and economic parameters. At partition, they got some of the most fertile lands (big punjab), and a lot less of the extreme poverty-stricken areas like we did. Their cities were not too different from ours, but had slightly lesser poverty and chaos. On top of that, India also had a Socialist policy with slow industrialization, and restrictions for foreign companies and know-how. Therefore throughout 1950s-1980s, we grew at a rate of about 3% p.a which was much lower compared to Pakistan's about 5%.

It was in 1990s when we opened our economy and started leveraging on our strenths, did we actually start to make rapid progress. We left Pakistan behind in per capita income a few years ago only... A lot of 1970s policies turned out to be a boon since we had already grown a breed of own industrialists, good educational instts. and later a good FDI policy where the foreign companies didnt just bombard us, but rather came in slowly.

Therefore, we're now growing fast now and that too in a self sufficient manner... we don't just import, we encourage/force foreign companies to set up manufacturing bases and generate jobs. The future is bright from here on. Best wishes to Pakistani friends that they too can get massive urban regeneration projects started...
