Although Indian armed forces face cut in defense budget due to slow economic growth, they are not short of ideas to make their presence felt and drive the Indian politicians to dangerous political terrains. Violations of cease-fire on Line of Control (LOC) with Pakistan is being seen as one of the demonstrations of Indian armed forces of their resolve to stay more relevant than ever and remind the politicians that even though India is the largest democracy on the planet, it is the generals who call the shots.
Not only the LOC, but Indian armed forces are trying to prove their relevance by engaging and daring a much bigger and mightier rival China. Indian’s were boasting of launching INS Vikrant, the indigenously made aircraft carrier which reflects India’s ambitions beyond their territorial waters. China has seen this move with disdain and has accused that the carrier is a threat to China. The Times of India has quoted a report in the state-run media today which alleged some countries are backing New Delhi to balance Beijing's power. The launch of India's INS Vikrant and Japan's helicopter carrier serve as a warning for China, said an article on the state-run Global Times' website. Some Chinese scholars emphasize that India has yet to grasp the key technologies of the carrier and that it will rely on other countries to maintain and upgrade the carrier.
China is apprehensive of the fact that many countries are supporting India in developing advanced weaponry, not only for profit but also to balance China's power.
Sea is not the only domain where India is daring China, it has also responded to China’s over-reach in Ladakh area where Chinese have been flexing their muscle to browbeat India. Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA) units not only captured the area occupied by India on the Line of Actual Control (LAC), they also made aggressive gestures rendering India total helpless. Indians have, however, asserted themselves by landing the latest version of C-130 military cargo aircraft on one of the ridges of the said area. This is a subtle show of strength.
India Today has reported that the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Tuesday landed its C-130J Super Hercules transport plane at the world's highest and recently-activated Daulat Beg Oldie airstrip in Ladakh near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the scene of a stand-off with Chinese troops in April. The achievement will enable the armed forces to use the heavy-lift aircraft to induct troops, supplies, improve communication network and also serve as a morale booster for maintenance of troops positioned there.
