Imagine Scenario: If Pakistan had continued to be united and not got divided in 1971

why doesn't india unite with BD instead wouldn't it make more sense than pakistan ? they share a physical border, there is already 50 million illegal BDs living in india and common bengali ethnic group/speakers across both countries.I wonder why they didn't just annex BD in 71 lol.

That is going to happen anyway. India is now so detested in Bangladesh that if the AL falls there will be an anti-Indian backlash.

This is all because of their interfering in internal issues of other countries.

Yeah like you people ever cared about Bengal. West Pak army can't even take Kashmir LOL. Bangladesh kicks India's a@* alone, we don't need anybody help gotcha. We gonna develop own nuclear technology with help from China to boost defence. Even BSF got smacked on the face by our villagers in 2001 hehe.

BD would have been occupied by India and Pakistan would have been shouting "India, you have taken East Pakistan, its okay but give us Kashmir"
India only occupied the kingdoms that were not part of either pakistan or India... pakistan did the same.. it made no sense to occupy pakistan(east pakistan that is), when we all agreed that muslims will have their own country. When cost of occupation is more than benefit, nobody would occupy a land.

The whole idea was ridiculous from the word go.

Any real democratic state would have meant permanent Bengali domination over the rest of the country and that is something that the rest of the country would not have accepted forever. Let us not get into the issue of 1000 miles that also separated the two wings.

BD and Pakistan are best going it alone and co-operating where there is mutual interests.
it could have worked.. you are taking current state of affairs and saying 'it was bound to happen'... UK maintains falkland island 1000s of miles away, in hostile territory.

truth is, pakistan faced same ethnic issues we faced, but made terrible mistakes in managing it. Geography and a powerful enemy did the rest.

1st If India was Never Divided Than It would have been part of United Kingdom ,Because Muslims wanted division which played a big part in the freedom of Sub Continent.
2 Bangladesh and Pakistan Its Just to Complicated The Only Similarity i see is Islam and Name Pakistan and that where everything ends it could have worked if both Countries we are connected by land and than it could have changed many things and the stand where i see it from If Both Countries we united Pakistan would been a more weaker state , Or would have been already divided into so many smaller countries or states.
3 Division Gave Pakistan and Bangladesh a small Chance to Get back up again and sort out the problems in there states and as nation stand united against a bigger Foe .
Else it would have increased the ethnic , language , Cast, state problems
Budget would have been divided , East and West would always show middle finger to each other .
Political chaos , united country would been more depended on India , And India would have bigger say in the internal matters of Pakistan .
Majority of India Say it was Good India Divided Pakistan , But If it was united than , Instead of Sea , Pakistan would have preferred using india Roads ,and air space it would have been alot cheaper and many other accords similar to these once which would Kept Pakistan in check

You are way too intelligent to actually believe this - me thinks you are trolling Pakistan here:D

Falklands is a tiny dependency of UK and it cannot afford to be independent even if Argentina did not claim it. It only has 2,000-3000 people and could not afford the basics of an independent state like embassies around the world for a start.

You also need to take into account that BD Muslims are way different to Muslims of what makes up the current Pakistan. They on the whole are tribalistic and fuedal and we are more into the concept of the Bengali state where are all equal and going towards a common goal of a developed modern state.

Anyway, even if Pakistan had allowed Bengali domination of the country, the chances are that BD would have decided to go independent anyway as it would have found the current Pakistan too burdensome with it's ethnic and tribal dynamics.

The whole idea was stupid from the word go.

The whole idea was stupid from the word go.

The whole idea was not stupid but what West Pakistani rulers did was stupid

West Pakistan should Have initiated an amicable separation

They thought that they can hold East Pakistan by force

Basically they were ONLY interested in the LAND to use it as a base to attack India

Name me one other example of a state in the world where you have two territories with similar populations?

I don't think they actually thought they could hold BD by force for long, they just went from one stupid idea to another and had no real long-term plan.

True. Unnecessarily gave Bharatis a victory in 1971 with this stupid idea of East and West Pakistan.

Bharati trolls won't have any thing to run back to in every other thread if our founders were a bit more sharp

It was Not about being stupid or not being sharp

It was about Contempt ; downright Contempt -- with which the West Pakistan looked at the east

By the late 1960s, a perception had emerged that the people of East Pakistan were second-class citizens. It did not help that GeneralA. A. K. Niazi, head of Pakistani Forces in East Pakistan, called East Pakistan a "low-lying land of low, lying people".[20]

In Dacca following the election a general said "Don't worry, we will not allow these black bastards to rule over us".[22][23] Soon President Yahya Khan banned the Awami League and declared martial law in East Pakistan.[24][25]

The attacks were led by General Tikka Khan, who was the architect of Operation Searchlight and was given the name the "butcher of Bengal" by the Bengalis for his actions. Khan said—when reminded on 27 March 1971 that he was in charge of a majority province—"I will reduce this majority to a minority".[34][35] Bina D'Costa believes an anecdote used by Khan is significant, in that it provides proof of the mass rapes being a deliberate strategy. InJessore, while speaking with a group of journalists Khan was reported to have said, "Pehle inko Mussalman karo" (First, make them Muslim). D'Costa argues that this shows that in the highest echelons of the armed forces the Bengalis were perceived as being disloyal Muslims and unpatriotic Pakistanis.[36]
