What's new

I just passed my 4 ACCA foundation papers

It is just a thought that it is a premium degree.

Checking the hi-fi jobs, even big 4s, will give you an idea that there are not even 2% CAs but full of MBAs.

Jobs like risk advisory etc.

MBA does not stand anywhere against CA ICWAS and that is why Brilliant IIM aspirants shy away from selecting MBA in Finance to avoid face off against CA/ ICWAS.

MBAs are only good where the moderate finance knowledge with Marketing etc is required such as loan selling etc.

Are you really aware of this or just making a claim? I have 15+ years experience in India & Overseas and deeply into it.

I am a management accountant (ICWA) and MBA in finance along with half of dozens of other degrees and working with a fortune 500 company.

And how many CAs you find out in the Investment banking industry, Risk advisory services, management consulting, Governance risk advisory? hardly 2 to 5%.

Just because by the time they finish their courses, it will be 24+ (being moderate) and have 2-3 years of experiance of auditing. They just join companies in audit/finance/accounts functions.

No you cannot attempt E and F without getting registered for articleship and completing the required period before appearing in these final exams. In my times articles were 4 years and you were eligible to appear in E once you had completed first two years and you could take F exams in last year of your articles. Nowadays the duration may have changed but articles is mandatory.

Route to CA starts these days with wide open gates and ends at very narrow exits. :D ACCAs I think are exempted A,B, C and D they need to get registered for articles in chartered accountant firm and then appear in E and F accordingly. Relatively familiar for ACCAs and easy as they have already studied most of the subjects except Tax Laws and Corporate Laws the rest should be familiar.

For normal people they can start after completing their FSc / A levels or graduation, but they have to appear for A,B,C and D. But in both cases (ACCA and fresh) articles from registered chartered accountant firm is mandatory after A, B, C, and D.

Yes ACCA get exemptions in up to module D.And similarly even after completing full CA you still have to appear in all professional level exams(final module) of ACCA.ICAP and ACCA are having a cold war because one is seeing another as a threat. But at the end of the day it,s a poor student who is suffering.

Well the fight between institutions would always have been limited to what exemptions their students get and nothing more, ICAP may have started it because previously ICAP students did use ACCA route to become CAs as a relatively easier shortcut, I think at that time it was only one or two papers they needed to take. You know if ICAP does not keep check on number of members its producing the quality will go down like what happened with Medical and Engineering, you would have more people than opportunities. And as long as Pakistan's market is concerned I think ICAP is doing pretty well, its an organised institution governed by its own Ordinance and has produced brilliant people.

Students just need to plan and discuss the options they have, it does not effect students yar these days they have lots of options to opt and gain multiple qualifications.

 Looks like we are going to fight again :)
ICAP quality only decrease if they are superior than ACCA in the first place. They simply see ACCA as a threat and as you said previously students were becoming CA after doing ACCA easily because they deserved but were also posing a significant threat to ICAP survival and were decreasing their students.Everywhere it,s like that ,to become part of a local accounting after doing ACCA you almost don,t have to do any more effort.ICAEW is not a joke the whole knows and they give us more than 90% exemption. So is ICAP quality wise superior than ICAEW? Total both CA and ACCA take roughly 6 years to complete by good students.
A,B,C and D modules of CA are done by most students but the final modules are pain in the a$$ because your success in them depends upon how much jobs are available in the market not on your hard work.Or may be this is how ICAP is maintaining it,s reputation and graduate employment statistics .However what i said is not certain as i heard it by few people and i don,t know how true is that.
I did A levels after matric and clearly saw a difference in syllabus and exam questions which makes our education system inferior.I felt the same when i compared CA exams and ACCA exams.CA syllabus is good and not inferior by any mean but the way of asking questions in exam is so simple as compared to ACCA.The examiner was not confusing the student to the point where his concepts get tested.

You won't understand this unless you enter the practical life :), be patient and one day it will unfold to you. ICAEW is no doubt better.

And regarding ICAP making it hard for people to pass exams, well my personal experience is whenever I took exam I knew in those three hours whether I will pass or fail, though your point regarding the paper setting asking tricky question is valid, I too never got it. I remember in one paper as soon as I read the questions everything went blank, sat there 20 to 25 minutes with my head in my hands, and finally started with the most easiest one 5 marks question and then reread the paper and finally understood what examiner wanted. :D

Well if practical life is about unfair competition by depriving the equal capable persons from their rights then sorry i am better without such a practical life. This is the reason our talent is migrating from the land of pure because we don,t know how to value it.

By practical life I mean entering a Chartered Accountant firm in Pakistan (if you plan to), that will provide you an opportunity to interact with students and members of ICAP and people who are more up to date with the profession, which in turn helps better understanding each other. That is what I meant.
