Hollande's visit in India : 2 major deals on the table

Indo-French defence ties have traditionally been good even when their broader bilateral relations were relatively indifferent. Since 1998, the fast evolution from a buyer-seller relationship to a trusted multi-faceted defence cooperation is remarkable.

The success of this association in the field of defence could be used as a lever for boosting other areas of Indo-French bilateral relations which are still dragging. Despite a somewhat indifferent past, defence cooperation between India and France since the establishment of their strategic partnership has proven that while both in need, the two countries have become friends indeed, which have a lot to gain from continuously improving their exchanges in the field of defence.

The near future will be determining for this new-born friendship. The time has come for Indo-French defence cooperation to evolve to real mutual dependence. This will be tested by France’s ability to assist India in the field of defence high technology and in the two countries’ ability to design and develop joint defence projects. The possibilities are numerous but need to be seized if France and India want to become true friends in the field of defence.

Additional scorpenes whether 3 or 6 are a welcome change and I support this
I would however also have liked the Rafales orders to be increased to 80 simply because that will allow Airforce to retire the 5 Mig27 Sqds without any repercussions on operational capabilities

I believe that from 3 onward, scorpenes shall be AIP. This will certainly be the A** kickers. Can we put k series and Nirbhay and brahmos on it?

Don't you think you forgot to mention "Israel" In our all weather friend category...

Secondly I think France more of a Business man then an all weather friend....first scorpene deal prime example of that...

I am sorry but Israel would be the first among our "all-weather" friends to sell India out if it ever suited their own interests better. I am NOT saying that Israel shouldn't look out for its own interests, but generally speaking Israel should be the last country that we put on a pedestal of "all-weather" friends.

Nor does Israel have big enough size economically/militarily to carry out an independent foreign policy(especially of USA), unlike the French.

Yes, both India and Israel share many of the common threats and would benefit immensely by combining forces. But that's really a transactional relationship at best. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Btw, the term "all-weather" friend is really non-existent when it comes to international diplomacy.

La visite de François Hollande en Inde prévue fin janvier pourrait être l'occasion de la signature du contrat des 36 Rafale et d'une éventuelle commande de six sous-marins Scorpène supplémentaires.

First,as we all know,Hollande will be the chief guest at India's republic day. The Elysée stated "This invitation reflects the quality and dynamism of the strategic partnership between India and France, which will be further strengthened on this occasion ""

According to latribune.fr,2 major deals should be part of the discussions between Modi and Hollande ;

-Rafale deal (a first order of 36 Rafale)
-6 more scorpène submarines

The Elysée also stated "The visit of Francois Hollande is also in line with the Paris Climate Conference where "India has played a key role for an ambitious agreement,"

It is estimated that the deals could be signed by the end of January. :partay:

Your Party CPM has NOT opposed The visit of Hollande on India's REPUBLIC day

So the question is WHICH PARTY do you belong to : Are you a NAXALITE

will a naxalite be so open on the internet?? :)

as for cpi-m, i am sure they will realize the need for more determined agitations... last year, the main public communist parties were talking of reunification ( after the separation in the 60's )... presently, these groups are agitating against internal problems that were made prominent since may 2014, but they will realize that only a internationalist outlook ( like in the earlier decades ) will allow them to gain power.

Well let's just wait for the 36 Rafales deal to be inked my friend ;)

+ yes, 6 Scropenes is GREAT news, earlier reports had been 3, then 4 but 6 is truly awesome and it's quite impressive if the MoD pulls it off and addresses the IN's biggest weak spot (its subs). This deal should kill off the Kilo offer and probably the P-75(I).

I think we are finally seeing a GoI/PMO/MoD that is willing to take advantadge of these juicy govt-govt offers that come up instead of going after long-winded open competitions for every single requirement that take years to materialise. It's rather sickening how many opportunities may have been missed by successive GoIs in the past.

Thats what I always advovcated for in our earlier conversations. This MoD/PMO/GoI group has identified the valunerability in the armed forces and are addressing the things based on priority. I am happy today to see that they cited funds issue for IAF purchases (im sure it will be addressed later) and invested the funds in wise decisions. The S400, new subs, DTTI/pathfinder framework that will give us EMALS (fingures crossed). They reduced the mouontain devision to 60000 from 1 lakh and made them more mechanized and all.

I see a clear road map and one can predict where we are heading. With the new govt I guess the factor "predictability" has gained momentum and will stabilise in future. We are now in a position to "measure" the threats to adress them in a structured way.

I think thats a wonderful way to go..

You can or may be a Hidden supporter ; ANYWAY forget it

Communists have LOST the favour of the electorate because they believed in ROMANTICISING Poverty

Only NOW with YECHURY as the Chief ; they have begun to make the right noises

Communists must realise that the PRESENT generation is ASPIRATIONAL
It gives a $hit to ideology

And DOWN with USA ; or down with Imperialism are just nostalgic slogans
of an earlier era

Because in Both West Bengal and Kerala there is a large section of population
keen to get on a PLANE to the USA

i will reply to the underlined statement... majority of the present generation are a wasted generation - spending time on college courses, jobs, religion, alcohol, cell phones, costly torn jeans, vid games, noisy motorcycles, kirket, phutball, dogs and so on... they neither bother with removing problems from their own society nor do they bother about world problems.

these people you call aspirational are selfish, frivolous, callous, idiotic, reactionary, isolationist... they don't bother reacting to informations like 200,000 indian farmers having suicided between 1997 and 2010 but will react violently to someone not getting up for the national anthem played at a cinema hall... they defend a unscientific, anti-human and nonsensical political/social/economic system instead of replacing it.

He also says that CPM has to meet the ASPIRATIONS of the people and not just TALK BIG

See this Interview ; a Bit lengthy ; nearly an Hour ; but GOOD Nevertheless

The PRAKASH KARAT era is OVER for the CPM

My friends,i wonder why India isn't looking after a more modern and stealth submarine such as the SMX-Océan (Literally a conventional version of our future Baracuda submarines) ?

France is offering Australia full transfer of stealth technology and local employment.
Maybe in the future,India could consider it ?

DCNS UNVEILS SMX®-OCÉAN, A NEW BLUE-WATER SSK WITH EXPANDED CAPABILITIES

At Euronaval 2014, DCNS is unveiling the SMX®-Océan conventionally powered attack submarine. The new vessel draws extensively on the design of a state-of-the-art nuclear- powered submarine, with a number of key innovations that give this diesel-electric adaptation truly outstanding performance.

A world leader in naval defence and an innovator in energy, the DCNS Group and its 13,600 employees are committed to applying their advanced know-how to help keep the oceans safe and secure. The Group’s internationally acclaimed expertise is perfectly illustrated by the SMX®-Océan project.

Exceptional performance
This innovative concept ship promises submerged endurance and deployment capabilities that are unprecedented for a conventional-propulsion submarine. With up to three months’ endurance, an SMX®-Océan could cross the Atlantic six times without surfacing. Its transit speed is up to 14 knots.
To achieve this level of performance, DCNS teams have developed and combined a number of innovations including a high-performance air-independent propulsion (AIP) system using second- generation fuel cells for submerged endurance of up to three weeks.
The SMX®-Océan features the same combat system, provisions for special forces’ missions, masts and general layout as the Barracuda SSN.

4D firepower: effective against underwater, surface, land and air threats
With a total of 34 weapons including torpedoes, mines, anti-ship missiles, cruise missiles and anti-air missiles, the SMX®-Océan’s firepower will be unprecedented for an SSK.
The SMX®-Océan concept ship design also includes vertical launchers, another major innovation in SSK design, to provide a salvo capability for cruise missile strikes on land targets.

A reconfigurable multi-role submarine
The SMX®-Ocean offers more multi-role capabilities than any other submarine of its type. It can operate alone or as part of a carrier group or other naval deployment, and will be the only conventionally powered submarine with the ability to deploy special forces, combat swimmers, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs) and even unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Carrier group escort
Equipped with tactical datalinks meeting international standards, the SMX®-Ocean is ideal for carrier group escort roles in support of coalition operations in any theatre of operations.

Technical data
Length: 100 m
Height: 15.5 m
Beam: 8.8 m
Surface displacement: 4,750 t
Maximum diving depth: 350 m
Maximum speed, submerged: 20 kts

I thought barracuda was a nuclear sub? you also got a conventional version Gabriel?

I wonder what has Hollande to do with Libya ?
If you talk about Sarkozy,i'd probably agree then.

I thought barracuda was a nuclear sub? you also got a conventional version Gabriel?

It is actually, but to export it we have to make a conventional version. (If we develop, work on conventional submarines,it's only for exports.)
You guys should have done the same, because you will never sell the Astute in the current configuration right ? :agree:
