For one example, read about what 'Bargi' Maratha raiders did in Muslim Bengal from 1741 to 1751. They raided, kidnapped, killed, and burned homes of innocent people.

Although I am not Marathi, I have a lot of family in Mumbai and have been there many times. Maratis overall are nice easygoing people, but they can be pretty hardcore. Especially the rikshaw drivers. Trust me, the last people you want to mess with are Marathi rikshaw drivers. Maratis overall have a rich and successful military history against various empires both foreign and domestic to India, which is one reason Maratis are some of the most fierce, proud, and patriotic peoples in India. The Maratha regiment is also one of the most decorated in India.
