Hawker 850XP

Clarification

ISLAMABAD: The spokesman of the Pakistan Navy said on Sunday that the Navy, to effectively meet the operational requirements, had purchased a used jet aircraft being configured in the EW role. He said that there was no truth in reports that the Pakistan Navy had purchased four VVIP aircraft. Categorically denying the assertions made in a section of the print media on Sunday, the spokesman said neither the Navy had purchased four VVIP aircraft nor it intended to. He regretted the assertion of the writer and urged him to ascertain the facts before writing on sensitive issues.

Hawker 850XP aircraft construction number 258982 was built in year 2008 according to info on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) website - FAA: Home - about aircraft i.e. construction number 258982 that was registered as N982XP in USA.
Before registration N982XP, this particular aircraft was registered in year 2008 in Aruba as P4-NUR for Jet Airlines JSC - JET Airlines - based in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
N3482Y was the first registration for this aircraft, probably for pre-delivery test flights conducted by Hawker Beechcraft Corp.

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) information about the last known registration N982XP sported by this aircraft in August 2010:
Registration: N982XP
Aircraft Serial/Construction Number: 258982
Manufacturer Name: Hawker Beechcraft Corp.
Aircraft Model: Hawker 850XP
Year Built: 2008

The cancellation of registration N982XP means the aircraft has received a new registration or military aircraft serial number, probably Pakistan civil aircraft registration (AP-***) or Pakistan Navy military aircraft serial number.

i believe by "spending 20 mil on rubbish" he meant the first bird dedicated to VIP transport not the later EW variants. So just relax, try to stay calm and analyze more thoroughly before you start bashing others. The EW variants would obviously be a great addition to our navy.

cheers

when all 4 are delivered, the navy guy is going to have 'egg' on his face!

when all 4 are delivered, the navy guy is going to have 'egg' on his face!

He might actually be technically correct at this point in time: today only one has been purchased (which doesn't rule out future aqcuisitions).

Furthermore, the point is that it is a USED aircraft, which are available for about $7-8 million rather than "$20 million" (which would in any event be an overstatement, since a new aircraft cost lt $14 million in 2006 and you'ld need about 10% inflation annually to cover the difference)

Pakistan Navy has paid about US$20 million for this aircraft which is to be used for the ferrying of the Naval Chief between NHQ and Karachi!
Miss use of funds better bought two ASW helo occaisionaly droped naval chief to GHQ when needed why waste funds on just transport when every penny counts

I think that PN has now fully looking to have its own Air wing! May be sooner they will try to maintain:
100 JF-17 Block-II&IIIs
Z-9 & Sea King
P-3Cs
ATR-72
UAVs

Wiki source is always un reliable
Oh really?

The reliability of Wikipedia (primarily of the English-language edition), compared to other encyclopedias and more specialized sources, has been assessed in many ways, including statistically, through comparative review, analysis of the historical patterns, and strengths and weaknesses inherent in the editing process unique to Wikipedia

An early study in the journal Nature said that in 2005, Wikipedia's scientific articles came close to the level of accuracy in Encyclopædia Britannica and had a similar rate of "serious errors".

Between 2008 and 2012, articles in medical and scientific fields such as pathology, toxicology, oncology, pharmaceuticals, and psychiatry comparing Wikipedia to professional and peer-reviewed sources found that Wikipedia's depth and coverage were of a high standard

What's Wrong with Wikipedia?
There's nothing more convenient than Wikipedia if you're looking for some quick information, and when the stakes are low (you need a piece of information to settle a bet with your roommate, or you want to get a basic sense of what something means before starting more in-depth research), you may get what you need from Wikipedia. In fact, some instructors may advise their students to read entries for scientific concepts on Wikipedia as a way to begin understanding those concepts.
Nevertheless, when you're doing academic research, you should be extremely cautious about using Wikipedia. As its own disclaimer states, information on Wikipedia is contributed by anyone who wants to post material, and the expertise of the posters is not taken into consideration. Users may be reading information that is outdated or that has been posted by someone who is not an expert in the field or by someone who wishes to provide misinformation. (Case in point: Four years ago, an Expos student who was writing a paper about the limitations of Wikipedia posted a fictional entry for himself, stating that he was the mayor of a small town in China. Four years later, if you type in his name, or if you do a subject search on Wikipedia for mayors of towns in China, you will still find this fictional entry.) Some information on Wikipedia may well be accurate, but because experts do not review the site's entries, there is a considerable risk in relying on this source for your essays.
The fact that Wikipedia is not a reliable source for academic research doesn't mean that it's wrong to use basic reference materials when you're trying to familiarize yourself with a topic. In fact, the library is stocked with introductory materials, and the Harvard librarians can point you to specialized encyclopedias in different fields. These sources can be particularly useful when you need background information or context for a topic you're writing about.
What's Wrong with Wikipedia? § Harvard Guide to Using Sources

According to Wikipedia itself, “[W]hile some articles are of the highest quality of scholarship, others are admittedly complete rubbish. … use [Wikipedia] with an informed understanding of what it is and what it isn't.”
The Top 10 Reasons Students Cannot Cite or Rely On Wikipedia

Andreas Kolbe lists a series of Wikipedia's grandest failures, but it's worth pointing out that academic journals are equally full of malarkey and don't receive nearly the same depth of public scrutiny. Certainly as a starting point to learn about a topic, I can endorse Wikipedia unequivocally. It should never be your sole source of information, but then, neither should anything else.
