A while back I was watching a video on YouTube about how to make Saudi type spice powder..the ingredients she added were cinnamon,clove,c umin seeds,coriander seeds ,cardamom and dried lemon seeds..apart from lemon seeds the remaining ingredients are exactly what we use in our houses to make spice powder.

Did Saudis or central Asians learn from us how to make spices or did we learn from them? vegeterianism was wide spread in India by the time the spice trade started between india and central Asia around 2000 years ago..did we use as much spices as we are using now? Or did these spices come into use in india only after central Asians started coming to India around 1000 A.D?

I have heard this story from a Gujarati historians that the use of spices started from Ganages plain, where there was a risk of disease every monsoon, hence the lead Vaidya(doctor) suggested the king & village head to start using pepper, chilli, cummin seeds to kill the bacteria and for swift digestion of food. This happened mostly during Mughal rulers in UP or Bihar.
