Has India Proved Churchill Wrong?

It's a slow process and is changing - people are becoming more aware and are not the sheep led by a bunch of guys anymore - change will happen and will take its time. I agree corruption is severe and is ingrained in our psyche. The biggest issues now is employing all the working population of India.

We're getting sucked in even more, we need drastic change in judicial system.

This attitude of 'Things will improve eventually' is the sole cause cause of this corruption ridden state of economy and the chasm which is engulfing every middle class family. If you want to bring in change, do it now.

For a start, "Vote for your nation, not for a bottle of alcohol and chicken"

Right people are making all the right noises - the powerful are not that powerful anymore - and the poor voting for some chicken and alcohol is quite true - but then when their economic condition and education improves they will take the right decisions. It will take one more generation for some visible change - I'll give u an example - whenever I hire a cab or rickshaw in Bangalore I inadvertently start a conversation with the driver - most of these drivers have their kids enrolled in engineering and medical colleges and they hope that their kids will not have to drive a cab or an Auto in their life. This trend - I have witnessed in most labor class - The daughter of my house maid - the son of our Gardner are all studying in English medium schools, the maid's daughter is the top rank holder in her class - her school expenses are covered by my family.

Voting for anybody in the electorate is bad! there is no honest politician, but if one interacts with any minister you will find they are mostly educated and are well aware and want betterment in their ministries plus higher bribe - the normal rate of corruption is 10% 0 but they demand quality as well to some extent.

Yes, spreading of education is a positive development happening in India. But ask yourself, are we giving them quality education? If you see, every moderately earning family wants their son/daughter to get enrolled in a private ICSE/CBSE school, this means that government primary education has serious dearth of quality.

We have to make quality education free for the masses, all it takes is some radical decisions by the education ministry. But they won't sanction it, because education is a big business in India.

Make all govt schools English Medium, better if it can be affiliated to CBSE/ICSE board. Its high time that the whole of India comes under one board.

Yes education is big business - But I have also seen very smart people passing out of Government schools - it's not all that bad - India and most states in South India spend heavily on Public education. Again back to the point that more education and awareness will increase the demand for quality - these organisations will have to keep up with the requirements or will close down. If India can manage to give even basic education to the poorest of the poor they will show marked improvement in their work output and will make it difficult for politicians to fool them in the future. Great change in a country like India will be gradual due to our unique set of problems.

For a start, "Vote for your nation, not for a bottle of alcohol and chicken"

But for poor people that wonder where their next meal will come from, a vote is just a way of getting immediate things in life. If the choice is to vote for A and you get something for your children to eat that that evening or vote for B and you children might stay hungry, you will always vote for A. Anyone would rather provide food for their children over any political persuasions.

People would need the basic needs like food, cloth, shelter and basic sanitation before democracy. That is why for a destitute country like India, the candidate that gets the most vote could be the candidate that provide the most basic needs. As a result, a large portion of people do not even know or care about the position of the candidate. This result in a failed democracy as you see in India.

Democracy also has its draw backs in the US and Taiwan. However, these two countries at least do not have a large portion of its citizens voting base on the candidate that provides the most immediate and tangible needs to buy the vote.

I have seen many non-english speaking friends doing good in corporate/IT industry, so i won't be advocating converting our education system into English, but having more exposure of english in education curriculum. We should not judge our education system based on our ability to speak english, that's a wrong concept.

Most important thing is to stop branding students based on their marks, education has to be interactive, with equal participation of extracurricular activities.

I'm not a supporter of Democracy, where a majority of illiterate and malnourished people's choice can devoid a nation from it's development.

Neither do i support communism for a change. :D

And why are you keep on comparing India with a communist dictatorship country. Of course China has less freedom and more oppression than even a failed democracy.

But compare to US or even Taiwan, India is not as democratic and people has less voice. Also, the per capita income of Indians is much less compare to US or even Taiwan. So India should compare with countries it which to strive instead of a country like China. Unless you wish India can only be compare to a country run by a communist with a capitalist bent without any democracy.

Also, communist China can provide more for its people better than India can, which is a "democracy". That is how pathetic India is right now.

Well he said we'd fail and he got it on his face. But one thing he was correct 100% was when he commented on the type of rulers we'd be getting; "thieves and rascals".

It is almost like a Nostradamus' revelation.

That is because he was the leader of the British Empire the biggest thieving imperialist nation the world has ever seen. In his case it took one to know one.

I totally agree with you. People need to have a stake in the country for them to vote. For freeloaders in the society, they need to get the basic human need first and the right of suffrage is not one of them.

That is because he was the leader of the British Empire the biggest thieving imperialist nation the world has ever seen. In his case it a took on to know one.

Indians are in debt to the British for creating their nation. If British lost a battle here or there to the french or Portuguese, then Indian subcontinent would not divided into 2 countries by religion, but into several countries by colonialism and princely states.

Sadly in this world knowledge of English is essential if you plan to become an 'international citizen'. In Kerala, almost every kid that I know goes to an English medium school..Govt or Private . Even the daily wage worker dreams of sending his kid to an English Medium School, the only thing thats preventing him is the lack of availibilty or his financial background. So why can't the Govt makes him easier for him?? I love my mother tongue as the next person , but that should not come at the access to knowledge.

Most important thing is to stop branding students based on their marks, education has to be interactive, with equal participation of extracurricular activities.

A very noble thought, but sadly in India, we run on 'certificates'.
