What's new

Happy Bengali New Year

Humayun Ahmed is a complete different type of writer and a trend setter.
Samaresh was highly influenced by Gorki but his writing was great. Never liked Sunil though (Not of my taste). Saying so, I am out of touch of any literature for the last 20 years. So cant say anything about recent publications. I heard Anisur Rahman writings are good.

Yes. Humayun Ahmad has his class of his own and I don't know why I have a gloomy, sadistic feeling when I read him. Suneel Ganguly is a poet by heart. Some of his novels are real classics (Like Aranyak) but it will never be equal to the class he reached through poetry. Samaresh is a real gem of this age.But why do you think he is influenced by Gorky? He is politically leftist but I don't know he was influenced by Gorky or not. It is sad that the standard of writing have gone down. We do not see "Manab Zameen" or "Lota kombol" classics any more. And the new age writers like Harsha Dutta,Vani Basu or Tilottama Mazumder are way off the mark.:(

Who celebrate
Kochu. West Bengal is not flag bearer of Bangaliyana. It doesn't even have a flag. LOL. We are the upholders of Bangaliyana because we are nation of Bengal (Bangla Desh). Musalmani Bangla can cry foul but we are happy to have only 'Bangla'. 98% Bangladeshis don't understand meaning of a single Arabic word apart from Allah and Muhammad (pbuh). Arabic influence is not practical in Bangladesh. We have English, Persian influence but this makes the language even more powerful. Language is same in West Bengal and Bangladesh apart from very few day to day words.

You say Lonka, we say Morich. That's the difference. You say 'Ami Achhchi' , we say 'Ami Ashhchi'. That's the difference.

Your state is West Bengal. Our country is Bangla Desh. That's the difference. :D

Liar liar pants on fire.

Hmmm Rabindranath Tagore? :azn:
@aazidane @idune @khair_ctg - What does the regular Bangladeshi feel about Rabindranath Tagore? :D
i think the "regular Bangladeshi" will react like Rab..what? they have more pressing things to think about. ones who do know a bit about the background feel R. Tagore as a personality and his works have been unfairly imposed on Bangladeshi Muslims. R. Tagore or his family background never represented Muslims and more they started the process of removing traces of Muslim culture from Bengal. imposition of R. Tagore sustains that process even today. people who knowingly supports the almost-official celebration of R. Tagore in BD on times like "Bengali New Year" (which itself is an alien imposition on Bengal Muslims) have extreme hatred for non-Hindu cultures existing in the subcontinent or even elsewhere

You had to fight for Bengali because it was being replaced by Urdu, we didn't face any such threat, and now some people want "Musalmani Bangla" in Bangladesh, so expect more & more Urdu & Arabic influence in it going forward, in a few decades only we, the true upholders & flag bearers of Bangaliyana, will speak unadulterated Bangla. :D
first, Bengali in it's current "book" form is a Hindu language developed by Hindus in Devanagari

and there was no fight for this Hindu-Bengali language. there was no attempt to replace this Bengali with Urdu. however there historically were and still are major attempts to replace Urdu and Farsi and spoken Muslim-Bengali dialects with the Hindu-Bengali

Bangladesh has two biggest festivals. Eid and Poila Boishakh.

Here its celebrated as Bengali festival. Hindus do their religious customs and Muslims do celebrate Bengali new year by rally, making masks, live concerts etc. Bangladeshi Muslim Bengalis celebrate it with way more festivity than Eid. We also celebrate Eid with joy but Bengali New Year is something else for Bangladeshis. Even West Bengalis don't celebrate it as grand as Bangladeshis do.
Bangladeshi Muslim Bengali DOES NOT EQUAL pagan or non-Muslim. FAIL

if you are so crazy about adopting Hindu culture, you can easily run to Calcutta and wear sindur and bindi and sing R. Tagore hymns

Wishing Happy new year for patriots.

And saddy day for anti-national nut heads.

a glimpse into the culture imposed by Hindu zamindars on deprived Muslims

haven't you seen Jews dressing up like Nazi SS officers and singing Third Reich supremacist songs?

Who tells such S@#t? A country which can't even produce decent authors at least at the caliber of Suchitra Bhattacharya, let alone Samaresh Mazumder or Shirshendu Mukherjee?
Bhai Mrs.Suchitra Bhattacharya was our next door neighbor and used to live in a house opposite to my home in South Kolkata for many years.Practically i spent a lot of time in her home when i was a kid.She was just starting to gain prominence at that time as a modern Bengali novelist. She was an extremely nice and down to earth person and was also a WBCS Grade-I officer.Later she bought a new home near Haltu(Kasba) and moved on.
She is one of the most accomplished female Bengali novelist of the modern era.:-)

We have Chayanot, We have Bangla academy, We have 'International Language Institute'. Rabindranath has his biggest house in Bangladesh. He spent 20 years in Bangladesh. He is as much ours as yours.

Our Humayun Ahmed, Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, Anisul Haque, Shamsul Haque and more are better than low standard Kolkatan novelists. :chilli:
Okay stop it both of you!!We all are Bengalis for chrissake even if we don't share the same religion. We share the same culture and language. So stop fighting like kids:sick:,btw our Bengali film directors like Satyajit Ray,Mrinal Sen,Rittwick Ghatak and Rituporno Sen have earned world wide audiences through their works.Heck Satyajit Ray remains the only film director from South-East Asia to be awarded with the prestigious Academy Life Time achievement award:chilli:

True nationalist Bangladeshis like @khair_ctg along with the nationalist parties and organizations like BNP, Jamat, Hefajot, etc. will ensure that we the people of West Bengal will remain the only Bengalis on this planet. :-)

Yeah there was a time when she used to live in our locality but since then she has moved on to her new home which is about 2 Kms from our neighborhood:(.You gotta admit the fact that she is perhaps the best new age female novelist in Bengali literature:agree:.If you can please read a novel of hers,"Bhanga Danar Pakhi".It's set in the medieval Bengal under the reign of Ballal Sen.I am quite sure that you will thoroughly enjoy it:cheers:

Mitin Mashi?? :undecided:

Fictional character like Feluda. Every year in Sharodia Anondomela you can find her. Suchitra Bhattacharya writes quite well.
