Hamas saw an opportunity and they took it, don't forget Israel has been slowly killing Palestinians and expanding their settlements so the war was already there. Also GCC and brotherly arab states want to recognize Israel and expand their relations. Action against Hamas would have been taken soon to finish the resistance.

Palestinians like anyone locked up in a concentration camp for two decades have no choice but to resist their brutal captors through violence if necessary. This is akin to slave revolt or warsaw ghetto uprising. Did those slave owners and nazis have a right to defend themselves?
