Gwadar: Iran to build oil refinery

That would be fantastic. Can't wait.:china::pakistan:

Well Iran and Pakistan already have a rail link via taftan that needs to be modernized and regarding Pak-china link things are beyond now feasibility reports and now land survey is in progress since mid last year .As china improves infrastructure in gwadar work on rail-link would be carried on concurrently. At the moment the feasibility report on a pack of three pipelines one for gas,one for crude and one for refined crude(petroleum products) is being prepared .

@LoveIcon doesn't Iran import fuel due to the lack of refining capacity.

Iran signs memorandum to build huge oil refinery in Pakistan
Iran signed a memorandum with Pakistan to build a big refinery with daily 400,000 barrels refining capacity, Fars News Agency reported.

This agreement was reached while the neighbouring countries signed contract to constructing Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline with yearly 7.8 billion cubic meters capacity.

Iran's Tadbir energy company will carry out construction of over 780 km length pipeline inside Pakistan and Iran obligated to pay $500 million loan for this project.

According to Fars report, based on the agreement, the two nations discussed building an oil pipeline for supplying 400,000 barrels of Iranian crude oil to Pakistan as well.

The agreement of refinery building and supplying crude oil is scheduled to be signed during Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari's visit to Tehran on Feb.27.

According to initial agreement, Pakistan would give a land in Gwadar port to Iran for building mentioned refinery.

Fars News Agency quoted Asim Hussain vice president of Pakistan that this country will pay off Iran's gas and oil price via bartering with foods, especially wheat, meat and rice.

No further information was provided on the details of the Iran-Pakistan oil trade and the refinery building.

Iran is one of the biggest exporter of oil whether its crude or refined. Their economy is based on oil and gas. If you havnt seen out of window recently then you should know that even with sanction iran is flourishing rather than going down and is one of the leading economies in the world. Only downside to iran is the lack of latest military equipment.

I think Iran make a smart move by having oil refinery at Gwadar, it's golden opportunity that they don't want to miss

1- Break isolation and U.S sea blocus
2-First arrive, first serve: once their rafinery is there, will be hard for competitor to set a second one there.
3-Iran then can refine all oil from central Asian countries that destinate to Eastern or south eastern Asia (Japan or South Korea) once the pipe lines is established,..
4- Refined oil will eventually distribute to eventual India pipeline;)
5-of course $$$$ profit.

Excellent news !

Everything makes sense. Iran would set up an Oil refinery and China would transport that resource using future Gwadar-Kashgar Railway line. Good for Pakistan, Iran, and China.

Oil cannot be transported on a railway line. Period.

Lack of refining capacity have more to do with business relations and creating dependency between customer & buyer than Iran's capacity to build refineries. You know if Iran start refining all required oil by herself than countries who will be effected will be her customers. For example major chunk of refined oil is imported from China+India and both are major customer as well. Same is the logic behind this refinery.

Mashallah sayen...hope everything goes through fine...

many kaali as*ses would be burning in the neighborhood

Iran-Pakistan-Turkey-China-Egypt-Russia should corporate and everyone will get benefit.

If Saudi Arabia, Gulf, and india stop licking West's ..then they are welcome too...

More and more regional co-operation among Asian countries and OIC is good.

The lesser the influence of West, the better.

They use Karachi to blackmail Pakistan, expecting that MQM will let Gawadar develop more than Karachi is stupid.

comparing Karachi with Gawadar is mistake there people dont want independence so karachi will remain Pakistan main Port..... Gawadar will be international port more.....

For common Pakistani it's not problem. They will love to see developments and economic opportunities - Problem is with opportunists who have held the Pakistan's economy hostage. Re Baluchistan, If you give them development and job/business opportunities than why they will ask for independence, eliminate the cause not voices.

Whether it is propaganda or not we still need that or should we rely on gulf countries who got their on and off switch in the hands of Americans. Pakistan needs to think economically rather than emotionally if we want to survive in new world. We cant rely on Gulf nations allied with US as we need some energy security. Secondly i don't read propaganda news just stating some facts. Personally it sickens me how Arabs treat non Arab Muslims.

Actually that is one of the down sides of having an Oil based economy. As economy grows bigger GDP gets smaller as there is no alternative supply for revenue. So Iranian economy wont grow unless they adopt alternative sources of revenue as this is their limit. Same fate awaits for all the gulf countries. For Pakistan it was 3.7% which could have been much better if we had finished this pipe line 5 years without scumming to outside pressure.

What is this mind boggling theory - I am unable to understand. However Iran is rich with minerals in addition to Oil & Gas. Today, If you lift sanction within decade it will surpass the gulf countries.

First we need to improve law and order guys!

Empty hands are devils play ground Each billion creates 4500 jobs plus 1000s of support jobs. 4 billion dollars investment means 1000s of people in Gwadar working. Bigger work force means smaller pool for terrorist to recruit from.
