Pakistan is peaceful state, Govt believes in resolving Issues through Dialogue
November 14, 2008

RISALPUR: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan is a peaceful and forward-looking country and the government believes in resolving all the issues of national importance through dialogue.

The Prime Minister was addressing the first-ever combined passing out and commissioning ceremony of cadets at Pakistan Air Force Academy, Risalpur. Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mehmood Ahmad and Air Vice Marshall Muhammad Safdar Khan were also present.

Prime Minister Gilani said Pakistan’s foreign policy is based on the phenomenon of peaceful coexistence with all other nations and strongly rejects the menaces of terrorism and extremism.

“Extremism and terrorism do not emanate from our soil. We are the custodian of the legacy of peace as enunciated by our religion,” he said.

He said Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was capable of defending the country’s borders with due responsibility and dedication.

The Prime Minister said the government was cognizant of the needs of PAF and would provide the prestigious institution with modern equipment to boost its performance.

He said the PAF would be further strengthened by providing it the best of aircraft and radars, and stressed that PAF should make an optimum use of all modern techniques and live upto the expectation of the nation.

The Prime Minister congratulated the outgoing graduates on receiving degrees and awards and hoped that they would prove themselves worthy of their ranks.

He referred to an excerpt from Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s address to Aligarh youth in 1942 that focused on building up characters rather than just getting degrees.

To the graduating officers, he said as their profession demands extreme precision and dedication, they should focus on performing duties with much vigilance.

The Prime Minister lauded the smart turnout of parade which he said “spoke immaculate of the institution’s standard”. He also congratulated the girl pilot leading the flight for the first time.

Earlier, the Prime Minister reviewed the parade and decorated the officers with badges. He gave away trophies to the graduates who showed best performance in their course.

He also witnessed exquisite aerobatics performed by Korakorum-8 as it made a pitch and roll position creating a clover leaf in air, and the manoeuvres by the Sherdils and paratroopers.
