ISLAMABAD - Four corps commanders and director general ISI are going to retire during the next three months and Lt Gen Naseer Janjua is being considered a strong contender for the top post of premier intelligence agency, The Nation has learnt.

Not really. They can either promote a Major General to rank of a Lt Gen and make him head of ISI or take an existing Lt Gen from important corps and put him in charge of ISI.

Current Lt Gen Zaheer Ul Islam was serving in ISI-Murree while he was a Maj Gen, he then got promoted to Lt Gen and served as Karachi Corps Commander. And since he already had ISI experience, he was the natural pick for the DG ISI.

Whoever heads the ISI, i wish them good luck. But in my view, it should be someone who can serve for at least 3-5 years. Routine changes in leadership can have it's detrimental effects. ISI needs to re-shape itself according to changing paradigm, Pakistan's Geo strategic position and above all, the 21st century warfare, where Nations are no longer the enemy but rather splinter groups/guerrillas.

Sir that is the issue among current Lt General I don't see any one with ISI experience

Who ever the next DG ISI is, I really hope he is like Gen. Pasha or Gen. Hameed Gul.

FIA and IB are civilian agencies.

Yara even i dont know the name --- i surely know the function, and that has civilians not only from psp and lea but from other departments, they are tasked with strategic matter - the group that is keeping Altaf Bhai alive, that has kept Malik Riaz on cards ---0 more to go, but why discuss that --- they are the ones who we axtually call "establishment"

No man. I meant wasn't it a civilian governmental intelligence agency. So I thought normally wasn't the chief supposed to be from the agency itself or a civilian bureocrat.
