I dont get anything out of this. Can someone exxxxxxplain?

ROV stands for remote operated vehicles. if you recall the BP scandal in the mexican gulf, they had to use ROV's to get down there and do some work, because it was too dangerous for divers.

ROV are typically used by oildrilling companies because they are cheaper than actual divers. there are 2 class of ROV, one called "work" class who has small arms and can do things through remote under water, and the other is much smaller, but only equipped with a camera for looking around. e.g. assessing the dmg on an oil platform or the well, or anything else.

ROV comes in many sizes, but because it's a robot, you can send it much deeper and to perform dangerous tasks.

EDIT: thanks for those nice pictures Cabatli, let's hope the oil exploration that is going to occur in turkey will use these ROV when they need ROV and the crew that normally comes with it.

i didnt know turkey was a oil state! how is the oil industry in turkey anyway?

Being an oil state and producing work class ROVs completly different things.

Work ROVs are hard to produce. A lot of RND required; as both money and scientific/engineering work. Once you produce a fine ROV it is a very profitable product.

May be we dont need ROVs very much but there are global companies who need them and raedy to pay tons of money for ROVs. This is better than just using them. (a small note: Price of heavy duty ROVs starts from hundreds of thousands dollars and may reach millions.)

Don't just think of these ROVs as industrial machines.

Sure, they provide a long list of benefits for the oil and mining industries, oceonography, research of sunk boats, etc. But the military advantages are also quite significant:

  • Search & Rescue
  • Detection and clearance of Mines
  • Laying fiberoptic cables, communications lines, relay stations, etc.
  • Underwater demolitions
  • Diver assistance in murky or high-current waters
  • Performing maintenance work or repairs on a wide array of submerged platforms
  • Infiltration of enemy naval bases for Intel/Sabotage
  • Etc etc.

A ROV and it's crew can fetch up to 100.000-150.000$ a day. But this includes cost of ROV ship, crew and the ROV. Cut the ROV ship out of the deal and you can look at aprox. 35.000-50.000 $ a day.

CANAKKALE - Single Shot ROV (SSROV) is a remotely operated and disposable underwater vehicle to replace the human role in mine countermeasure (MCM) operations.
