Dhaka, Nov 30 (bdnew24.com)Former guerrilla leader Jyotirindra Bodhipriya (santu) Larma says he will lead a agitation from the new year to make the Chittagong Hill Tracts accord operational.
"The accord was signed 14 years ago but so far, there is no development in implementing it," said Santu, now heading the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS).
He was speaking at a press conference at a city hotel Wednesday marking the 14th anniversary of the accord that ended decade of bloody bush war.
He put forward a 19-point charter of demand for immediate implementation of the accord.
"PCJSS will begin public relations and take agitation programme from January next year to meet the demand," he said.
If the government does not take any step to implement the accord, tough action programmes would be declared in March, he added.
"Unstable situation may be created in the future in the CHT region," he warned.
He alleged that the government was not pro-people and that's why it is not sincere about the accord.
UPDF
The PCJSS president alleged that the UPDF (United People's Democratic Front) was the creation of the government.
"In 1997, when we were surrendering our arms at the stadium, they protested against the accord."
The UPDF has two objectives to destroy the PCJSS and put hurdles to the implementation of the peace accord, he added.
"The government is giving them support and arms."
South Sudan
Santu Larma said if anybody thinks that CHT would be divided like Sudan, then they are mistaken.
"After signing the accord for 14 years, if somebody comes up with such absurd theory, what can I say?"
He said the foreign minister recently said there is no indigenous people in Bangladesh.
"I don't understand even a few days back she expressed solidarity with us and now she is talking otherwise," he said.
Demands
The major demands of the PCJSS are time-bound work-plan for implementation of CHT accord, cancellation of all land leases extended to non-local people, withdrawal of army, rehabilitation of refugees in the hill areas and election in three hill districts.
