While this is good for a few easy laughs, it does shed light on the desperate circumstances these people endure. Seems like people will believe in some unseemly stuff when they are on the brink of a famine. A stronger centre government is required in India, the state governments are hopeless and unbelievably corrupt, and when someone does start to make sense, he is branded an elitist westerner/outsider and is driven of the political field. How do you bring change when majority of the diaspora is gullible and superstitious?

I have found an article about it which suggests that this practice is condoned in religion as it was undertaken in a temple. But no harm is caused as the frog is released after the event:

VILLUPURAM: The annual ritual of getting a girl married to a frog organised in Pallu Puthupattu village on the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry border is an interesting meeting of fairy tale and real life. On the first Friday of Thai (Tamil month) every year, a girl of Pallu Puthupattu village is married off to a frog that is fished out from a temple tank. On Friday eight-year-old R Vigneswari of the village was married to a frog that was fished out from a Sri Muthu Mariyamman temple. At the wedding the residents adopted all the rituals that are followed during a normal wedding. The people residing at western side of Sri Muthu Mariyamman temple were considered as relatives of frog. They visited the residence of the bride, Vigneswari and obtained permission of her parents for the marriage. The girl decked up with bridal make up and saree was taken out on a rally on Friday evening. The procession culminated at pond in Vannankulam. After three-hour long ordeal they have caught a frog from the tank. Amidst chanting of devotional hymns and beating of drums, temple priest, on behalf of the amphibian, tied nuptial knot to Vigneswari in a pandal set up at near a school. Residents greeted the ‘newly married couple’ and offered moi (cash) to them. Dinner was served to all the invitees in pandal. After performing pujas the frog was released into the temple pond. And during the honeymoon a wicked frog (villain) saw the female frog and wanted to have her as his wife, and after carefull planing lured her husband to go abroad to Japan and showed him big dreams, so that after he leaves he can take his wife.

And the male frog landed in japan and the address he was given was of a restaurant and what happened with him there was pictured secretly

I know this place though not the village - I mean the Villupuram district - Pondy border. Tamilnadu used to have 100% tax on liquor while Pondicherry(Puducherry) would have no taxes on liquor. So a beer in TN would cost Rs 40 while in Pondy it used to Rs 20. So drive up there and sit by the sheds next to the liquor stores on the border and would drink few bottles of beer and sometimes stay overnight.

Villupuram district in TN is the most backward district in the state and one of the backward districts in the country (used to know a IPS officer in this area back then who would say this often - he is in a high position in Chennai now)

None taken mate - Again I can confirm this as the video quotes Tamilnadu. When I was young and on a visit to my village, a young servant kid(we were almost the same age then) took me someplace where I got to eat bandicoot though my mother kicked my **** later.
