sir,

1. what does it has to do with China Defense section????????

2. And as for the topic one must remember:

a.) The largest number of students who apply for foreign education are also from China.

That is if China have the best education institutes then why Chinese go outside China for studies?

3. And one must also remember that the majority of these students who are coming to study in China are the children of Chinese people settled in different part of the world.

Poor troller, you should ask the indian students studying in china, why they come to china.

.
the same thing happens for chinese students. alot of them that can't pass the college entrance exam go to aus or england for an easy degree for a high price.

Definitely true for a lot of undergrads, less so for postgrads, depends on the school as well, some of them treat chinese students like cash cows :D :D

.
Do Chinese institutes have any entrance test for PhD? And do research institutes apart from universities offer PhD?

The answer for the both questions are yes.

But I don't think international students have to take that test. this tests are all in chinese language. I know a pakistani student coming to china for doctoral study, he could barely speak chinese when he first came here.

Can you name some good institutes, in particular for physics? Also, do the international students complete the PhD in Chinese only or English an option?

And come on, you don't have to make fun of any body for such a stupid mistake...

I'd say tsinghua is probably one of the best known science universities in China, it's in beijing. The admission to that school is competitive (think of it like IIT in India).

The chinese government is encouraging foreign students to study in China so it's offering quite a lot of generous scholarships, (tuition + living + medical insurance without having to take up any teaching responsibilities) [China] Chinese Government Scholarship-University Postgraduate Study Program 2009-2010 | Scholarship Online

Here is a ranking of the universities in China, it changes every year and you ask different people they'll probably give you different opinions, but it's roughly on par. Top Colleges and Universities in China | University Web Rankings

Also in terms of social life, a east coast city is highly advised :partay:

Tsinghua university and Peking University in Beijing are the best university in China. it will be good if you can go there. they only take around 50 students from every chinese province every year.

Fudan University in Shanghai, Nanjing University in Nanjing are also among the best university in science. I heard nanjing unveristy is very strong in physics.

University of Science and Technology of China is also among the best in china. it has the best reputation in academia of china. it is small and only takes 1800 students every year, but it's very deep in the science and has top-notched research lab. As far as i know, its physics school has 11 departments. it is the only university have two national labs in china. I know there is a Tokamak reactor for controlled nuclear fusion technology research. USTC is in my hometown Hefei, life there is very boring but a good place for research.

CAS, china academy of science is also strong in physics. but i don't know much about that.

I think you can communicate with your advisor and write paper in English. but I guess you still have to learn chinese for course study.

Thanks guys, now a really important question...
What about food. I am a pure veg..

Also can some one explain this?

New students will get one-off settlement subsidy upon arrival in China.

* CNY 1,000 Yuan for new students who will study in China up to six months
* CNY 1,500 Yuan for new students who will study in China for one academic year or more

[China] Chinese Government Scholarship-University Postgraduate Study Program 2009-2010 | Scholarship Online

Is it one time or monthly?

that's your one time subsidy for settlement, there is also monthly stipend:

3) Monthly living allowance is paid to the students by the host institution at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):

Master degree students: CNY 1,700 Yuan
Doctoral degree students: CNY 2,000 Yuan

2000yuan/month is absolutely enough for your study in china.

As for veg part.... . there is halal restaurant in china's unversity, but no veggie restaurant. I don't know whether you can accept the vegetables provided in the canteens unversity. if not you have to prepare meal by your self

In the US there are strict rules on who can study/research nuclear technology in its universities based on nationality, do you think TG is going to allow foreign students study nuclear at its national labs? I'm a little bit skeptical... but other than those sensitive subjects, it should be ok.

Here is the list of universities that participate this scholarship program, all the mentioned universities are on that list so the government is taking this initiative quite seriously.

You won't be subject to the same rules as the Chinese students do so no need to worry about the Chinese admission statistics too much. Looks like a good transcript + two good references + a good self-recommendation can carry you quite far.

you don't have to worry about our goverment. they know this better than we do.

I saw few internaional students cherish their valuable time in china's universities. however, there were two North Korean studying in my department when i was in university. they study extremely hard and lead a frugal life making us feel ashamed. Teachers always said we need to learn from them. They remind me of the students we sent to Soviet Union in 1950s, they became the founders of today china's industry and technology.

Poor prejudice, this shows u agree with me and don't have a argument.

As per Indians it cost Rs. 8,00,000/- to become Doctor in China including each and every cost (Boarding, loading, tuition fee, fares etc.).

And if one wants to study for becoming Doctor in India it will cost minimum Rs. 25,000,00/-

So, it's just cheap in China.

But, in India a student who have studied abroad (Like China, Russia) have to give exam before he can practice and work as a Doctor.

Thanks for your enlightening.it's free of charge for graduate study in china. so china is cheap. high tuition absolutely meet the prestige of India. it will be more cool if charge in golden rupee which on par with 45 USD for one.
