There is nothing comic about a farmer's death. We are a nation of farmers that does not know how to care for our farmers. Can you imagine the despair of someone who has slogged to till the land and sow his crop and take care of it and protect it and water and fertilize and weed it, back breaking hard physical labor, in sun, our kind of sun, having taken loans to get the water or the pump or the tractor or even the seed or fertilizer, his family and kids eating for the next year dependent on the crop, and unseasonal rain or hail just comes and wipes it out overnight?

I wish you and your NGO would do something for them. I wish we finaly pass a law or a bill which cooperatizes farming and land holding and makes these ultra small holding economically feasible and profitable. There is no other way.

Farmers are committing suicide because they know that the system was created and nutured by various corrupt political parties will not give them anything. They have lost hope from the system. So blaming today;s new parties who are controling the government is not gonna help. It is rotten system. Unfortunately change take time to reach the lowest level. Bt once the farmer is ensured he is also heard and there is a system which will take care of him in case of any disaster there will be reduced suicide attempts.

Scenarios not comparable.

In Bihar, Modi had to work to prevent a stampede and panic. Kejru here could easily have stopped speaking and gone to talk to this farmer.

yes but surely this subject is great for satire... this reminds me of a recent film of pankaj kapur in which he is a retired teacher who has been declared dead in government papers... i don't know why i make this connection but just seems related.

We are a nation of farmers that does not know how to care for our farmers.

because farming here is unpolitical, unscientific and casual, which also has political/social effects, one of which is farmer suiciding.

i can imagine their despair which is why i have long been propagating for libya-style farming system where the farmer does not have to worry about anything at all...

- free land given to anyone interested in farming.
- free provision of initial material needs.
- free housing.
- free electricity, free water.
- free unemployment money ( if a crop should fail ).
- loan without interest.
- free education system, free medical system.
- system giving 60,000 dollars to a couple at wedding ( for married life expenses ).
- no squabbles about land because of socialist system.
- social life guided by socialism, which resolves intra-family disputes.

so a farmer's life is not troubled at all.

I wish we finaly pass a law or a bill which cooperatizes farming and land holding and makes these ultra small holding economically feasible and profitable. There is no other way.

one of the problems is ultra-small rural farming which is not meant for self-use but for sale... in economic terms, it is not feasible.

the other problem is ultra-small micro-credit which provides only for immediate small expenses and nothing big that makes a person remove himself from poverty or indebtedness.

Really sad. There could be another reason for suicide as Arvind kejriwal told yesterday " we can fulfil only 40% promises in 5years". This statement bring totally dispointment for Delhi people.
