So we have a full agenda to block the next few sessions in parliament and some fodder for western media to gleefully gloat over India's poor farmers.

It is going to be politically incorrect but why did the farmer travel to Delhi to do this? Why did he not do this in his home state?

Its Delhi, everything gets blown out of proportion. Both the good and the bad. The CM gets credit for things he didn't do and gets the blame too.

As for why Kejru is answerable, allowing this to happen while his rally was on and not stopping is despicable.

It seems the AAP rally carried on for over an hour even after the CM was informed that the farmer had died. If true, shockingly atrocious behavior.

Farmer suicides are a big issue and it's very sad what's happening. Taking a colder view though, why should farmer suicides because of excessive debt take priority over suicide of anybody else? I remember G. Venkateswaran, a film producer, killing himself a few years back because of debts - does this mean the govt is responsible for it and should bail out all flopped films? The farmer who has taken the debt is fully responsible for his actions - if he thought farming wasn't feasible (small scale farming is never feasible), he should have leased out his land and looked for an alternative profession which works for his family. Instead, he took a risk, borrowed and is a coward who took the easy way out when things did not work his way - nothing more.

I think that is an oversimplification of the underlying issue. There are a lot things the government can do for farming to be less reliant on external fluctuating factors, which have not been undertaken by the states yet, especially in drought stricken areas.
