I read it in TOI as well and thought it a bit too exaggerated and generalized, Though these performers do come under some duress to stop singing, but they can get away in an urban setting but in the remote areas where these fundamentalists run amok - getting away from any pressure would be difficult and not advisable for their well being.

as i said before, TOI is still in past, that stuff happened long time ago when taliban were actually in some regions, u tell me, how does a singer who left music industry on his will, connected to singers who were threatened in the past? this song literally became anthem of KP for few years
