Eye Opener | An Indian-American Visits Pakistan.

We Indians love eating pizza. Everywhere you have local pizza redi wallas. Most kiddie parties have pizza standard.

Does that make pizza an Indian dish?

But before that, millions of Italians migrated to the US and made it their home. They became Americans. No longer Italians.

They brought their pizzas with them.

Pizzas must thus be American.

Good - apply same logic here, Human migrated from Africa so they definitely brought their customs, so everything is African. But anyway if saying "Hindus" introduced everything in world makes your life better than i have no problem with it. :)

Not world. Just the subcontinent. And most of SE Asia. Not to mention spiritual legacy in the whole of China as well. Pretty much impacting on 40% of humanity.

But we Hindus are humble beings. We would be satisfied with limiting ourselves to the subcontinent and all the 7 nation states and their peoples that it is comprised of.

Why not whole world dude - after all IVC is world's earliest urban civilization :)

Because we did not expand our footprint beyond the regions and peoples I pointed out in my previous post. Sure, there was trade, and for a long long time India was one of the centers of learning and modern scientific thought, so the soft impact was always larger, but at a vast populace level, in terms of way of living and culture, it would be limited to the regions I spoke of.

I do not understand what has caused you to "go bonkers" coz after all you share these achievements with us as equal owners.

Unless your peeve comes from a favored entity not getting its just "due"?

Or your current animus with your past.

Pakistanis visiting India have very same experiences. We are basically the same people.

PAKISTANIS WILL DISAGREE. :coffee:

We are basically the same people.

Definitely all of Pakistan on our side of the Indus.

The other side of the Indus is more a buffer cusp region racially between two distinct civilizations linked since ancient times. With an admixture of migrating genetic material from the many foreign invasions over centuries.

But long and short of it is political, and that too of a very recent nature.

If we can have Mizos and Assamese and Bengalis and Punjabis and Kashmiris and Bhils and Santhalis and Tamilians and Coorgis and Konkanis and Sindhis and Rajputs and Marathas all living together as Indians, the number and relative spread of genetic stock within the entity of Pakistan is way smaller in comparison.

Someone praised Muslims and you went bonkers over it - What is this called?

As of now archeological findings suggest that there were two civilization in sub-continent and earliest religion of IVC is not proven yet - so, hold your horse unless your claims are proven and talk about current era.

Is Dr Zakir Naik a credible source in Pakistan? I am really asking it, I want to have an idea.

LOL!!! Nothing just wanted to tell you that there were pre-vedic religions in this region everything is not because of Hinduism.

Credible source of what? Majority of Pakistani don't even know or heard his name.

A Pakistani in India

History, unfortunately, has given Indian and Pakistan varying reasons for hostility. It is sad to see two nations with so much in common distrust and, in general, hate each other. The media rampant with messages of anger against the ‘other’ and thus, choosing the path of friendship or normalisation is a mission of passion.

Travelling from Islamabad to New Delhi, however, has changed my perspective to a great extent.

During a recent month-long stay in India’s capital, I found myself feeling as if I were a local, thanks to the similarities in language, culture and ethnicity. I fit in like a hand in a glove.

Most of the time, I roamed the streets, markets and historic places. At times, I thought I was walking through parts of Rawalpindi, Karachi or Lahore!

The way of talking, the markets and the people are just like us. The congested markets of Delhi took me straight back to Rawalpindi.

In fact I met a delegation of parliamentarians last year when they came to Islamabad and they were surprised at how similar Delhi and Rawalpindi are.

I didn’t get into any debates over my nationality in India; I didn’t need to pretend I was Indian.

That’s because as far as the common man knew, I was Indian, I was a Delhi’ite.

Contrary to misconceptions, no one chased me and no one investigated me.

I asked about the price of salt, as I had heard many stories in my childhood of how an Indian spy unknowingly exposed himself in Pakistan when he demanded five rupees worth of salt for a glass of lassi at a restaurant.

Lo and behold, there was no difference in the prices!

Whenever I did identify myself as a Pakistani, all I was given was respect, love and affection.

A lot of people didn’t believe that Pakistanis talk just like them and even dress like them. They were so surprised at our similarities.

While talking to his family members on telephone, an Indian shopkeeper proudly informed them that a Pakistani friend was in his store.

My green passport was a source of contention though.

The owners of restaurants, net cafés, money changers and franchises of cellular companies are under strict instructions by the home ministry to carefully deal with Pakistanis.

The Muslim community is particularly more careful while dealing with Pakistani Muslims in New Delhi.

I was under the belief that I would get an Indian phone number with ease, but due to the colour of my passport, it took a week for them to process my request.

When I expressed my dismay at this, the people showed sympathy and stated that they were duty bound since my name is ‘Khan’ and not ‘Sharma’.

The Indian media is suffering from Pakistan-phobia to a great extent and the politicians also sometimes jump into the foray in pursuit of cheap popularity by giving anti-Pakistan statements but this trend has changed in Pakistan to some extent.

People living on either side of the border are unhappy with their incompetent and corrupt systems. They assign all sorts of blame to the governments and security establishments of both countries.

Many people believe that,

‘Hum aik hi hain, bus ye sari larai naita logoon ki hay!’

(We are the same people, the fight is only among the rulers!)

This gave me a ray of hope.

Now, the challenge is to find a middle ground for real stakeholders (the common man), who become aliens as far as the governments of the two countries are concerned.

Its the same in India as well, am yet to see a write up about a Pakistani being treated badly in India or an Indian being treated badly in Pakistan.

And the fact that 9 out of 10 times Pakistanis will think that you are a Pakistani and Indians will think that you are an Indian also helps.

Regardless of what the pakistanis on PDF say, its very hard to identify an Indian in a Pakistani crowd or a Pakistani in an Indian crowd.

The same people? Surely not - Hindustan Times

Did anyone else see the irony? He had armed guards pick him up. And he praises how safe it is.

Exactly what I pointed out when this aticle was posted ages ago.

The answer is given by the author right there in the article, if only one chooses to accept and acknowledge. Or maybe just read the whole article?

This isn't a new article, it was posted on this forum last year. Debated thoroughly. Maybe you as someone in Pakistan don't get this, we in India don't have armed guards for ordinary people. To suggest somehow that a place requiring armed guards for someone visiting is just another normal place is a bit of a stretch. The incongruity was pointed out. That's all.
