If you ask me, Pakistan (aka Industan) is a far more natural and organic nation than most that exist today in the world. The only challenge is internal- how to bind its cis-Indus and trans-Indus provinces into one nation.
That's a very insightful understanding of Pakistan's realities, among the best I've come across. Although I'm not sure how I feel about the Industan terminology, how about giving the name India back to us
I would say, the cis and trans issues have been resolved to a large degree, they were a cause for concern in the initial decades after independence, till the 1980's to be precise. But from the 1990's onwards these issue are fast disappearing and only remain as marginal topics.
There are various factors behind this natural acceptance of our new identity, but that unified sense of being is very much alive and permanent.
The following survey was conducted a year after Benazir Bhutto was killed in a terrorist attack, and couple of years after Sardar Bugti was killed in a military operation, and terrorism was in full swing, there was also a strong anti Musharraf feeling in the country because people were sick of the military rule and the continuous terrorism.
It's from a Pew report in 2009, so the first year of return to democratic rule. Baluchistan was not covered, I can only assume they choose not to visit.
This was 13 years ago, I can assure you that the national identity is far stronger, then it was a decade ago.
These results reflect the feelings of the people when the country was at it's lowest. They speak for themselves.
The following survey was conducted around 5 years ago.
I personally think surveys are just a guideline rather then an exact reflection of reality, but they provide a prevailing view amongst the people.
