Export bids for JF-17 Thunder Multirole Lightweight Fighter Aircraft

Pakistan is going to get a better aircraft not because of Tejas but the requirement of air superiority. If India buys the Rafale then Pakistan would be looking for J-10b, J-16 and J-31 from China. Other options also include F-18's from USA and Eurofighter Typhoon.

JF-17 is a multi-role aircraft. for further information

Pakistan air force budget is not much as you are expecting PAF has spend enough money on mushak and other training planes that's why they are offering other countries but no one is accepting it's offer
And about euro fighter forget about it too expensive

No necessarily. You're putting two and two together, when the issue of thunder sales, and PAF purchases are different issues.

As for the EuroFighter, it can be bought in a smaller package, say 30-40 aircraft, which is affordable for Pakistan. It would simply be a deterrence capability, which is all PAF really needs. Though, this is a mere guess work, as PAF has no current interest in the Eurofighter or Rafale.

Hi,

Paf has interest in multiple aircraft. It is waiting for india to make the final decision about the MRCA. Once that happens,, then paf can decide which way to go.

New Lexus LFAs still unsold two years after production ended.

So--here is Lexus---one of the finest auto makers of luxury cars----. Makes a Tier 1 sports car---and guess what---no sales---who could have thought of that at Toyota / Lexus---.

For the 2012 model---Lexus build 500 of them---they are sitting at the dealer car lots---only 17 have been sold so far---and this is February 2015

the same thing was said back in the 90s after IAF inducted su-30mki, our airforce was supposed to get mirage 2000-5 and instead we didn't get anything but more outdated F-7s and mirage III's

Hi,

Someone blundered at that time. You are looking at the procurement of 8 subs and LR SA missiles, and other items to be processed. So, there is a lots of stuff in the pipeline.

Turkey's TFX Program has 3 designs, the bottom design is a something the JF-17 should incorporate elements from

Are we stuck at number 17 ? Couldn't be there 18, 19,......... Its possible that Pakistan will be building JF-17ZZZZZZC in 2075 ! US has F-14,F-15,F-16, F-18,.... Russia has Mig21,23,37,27,33,35........China has J-11,12,13,14,15,16.....
USA

its not 2075 anytime soon
the jf-17 project was started in 2003, only 12 years ago, its not that old
us may have the f-14,15, 16,18; but in the future it will be f-35 and f-22 for the next 30 years
the gripen is what sweden will operate the next 30 years
the rafale with france, eurofighter with the four european air forces, etc.

the jf-17 is what the PAF will operate, that is what needs to be developed
its not a fashion accessory or new iphone to be changed each year

also whats in a name, develop the jf-17 and call it the jf-18 ... or jf-27
also pakistan barely has a fighter program, considering the national finances and governmental mismanagement
we should be grateful we even have a fighter jet program

Hi,

JF 17 is an older program under a different name. By 2003---Paf had gotten all it could after testing out the Grippen and rafale and went ahead into the JF 17.

Funds were not the problem---they had them in reserve---. JF 17 would reach its peak with an aesa radar and possibly a more powerful engine.

Paf should look for F 16's---they should also look at J10 B's with aesa. They also need 2 sqdrns at least pf either JH7B's with aesa or a version f J 11's.

yes there was the super 7 (sabre II) program in the 90's with the help of grumann from the US

but i agree, PAF should pickup as many f-16s as possible (alot are probably being retired in europe when the f-35 is delivered) and try to get AESA upgrades and Electronic Warfare upgrades, and try to acquire the latest weapons (meteor class ramjet BVR missile and AIM 9-X class WVR missile)

also if possible get f-16s that dont have the large dorsal spine (to keep weight down), and get MLU with the latest engine (similar to on the block 52) it would give an impressive TWR, better than even the block 52, and that can aid in making it an even better dogfighter

Hi,

I think that the future of Pakistan air force is Chinese now. The pakistani version of the Chinese aircraft may have a different engine, electronics etc, but it is going to be Chinese.

J 10, J 11's ( different versions ), J 31

but just as the israelis do, you acquire a foreign aircraft and tweak it to the max (israelis put on their own electronic warfare package) and try to get the most out of their planes (extending the range of the f-16 for the osirak operation) and studying and training on it, till the pilots know everything about their plane, and more than even the manufacturer might even know.

PAF has done this with the mirages and f-7s, Pakistan needs to develop its own aviation industry to focus on the tweaks, the improvements, and acquiring the technology to do the best tweaking from europe, turkey, the us, south africa

and come up with spin off products to put into its own planes and sell abroad (similar to how the israelis sell modification for mirage 3/5 fighters and f-16 modifications)

Hi,

Your thoughts are right on track but it is not as simple to do what you are stating. Pakistanis screwed the French real hard in the last decade which created massive problems for the air force---delaying the JF 17 program by 4 years and more----

Who screwed who ? As far as I remember France stopped the defense sales to Pakistan in 2011 hoping to land Rafale and other defense deals with India.

Eurofighter is produced by a consortium of four European nations, each with different foreign policies and different attitudes and tolerances to arms exports, Pakistan Air Force cannot rely on them as single supplier which will not embargo/stop sales of any part.
