Export bids for JF-17 Thunder Multirole Lightweight Fighter Aircraft

export potential of JFT depends on the capability of the pilots of the interested airforce/country. for most african countries who are interested in JFT, the JFT is a complex weapons platform.

countries that come to mind who could quickly convert to JFT are egypt, zimbabwe and nigeria who are operating chinese platforms esp. K-8 trainers.

May I know what kind of serious modification needed to make it a basic fighter? L-15 LERX gives it a very high angle of attack and it's thrust to weight ratio is 1:1. It's flying profile and ability is no different from JF-17.

Adding a potent radar, EW suite, integrating weapons, pods, etc. basically everything that would turn it into a fighter from a trainer. And when its done the stats you've been comparing would go down the drain. There is a reason why trainer aircraft are purpose-built for training and are kept as such.

China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation - Trainer

Twin ukarine engine plus twin seAt, makes it a safer bet than JF-17 for small Airforce who need not face powerful adversary like RAF or USAF. It's very idea for budget limited African and south American AF.

Becos china got another plane called L-15 trainer. The trainer term is a bit delusive. Actually this plane can dogfight and if install with proper radar and datalink. It can be as capable as JF-17. It has a huge advantage over JF-17 that is it is twin seater. So it will solve the trainer problem while at the same time performing the role demand by small airforce.

L-15 has already gone into mass production. First shipment of Ukraine after burner engine have already ship to china for final assemble . PLAAF and 2 foreign countries have already order L-15 and will enter service end of this year.

Now u know the reason why a twin seater JF-17 never materialise? Check out the spec of L-15, it is very similar to JF-17, top speed Mach 1.6 , ferry range 3000km.
Check out YouTube for L-15 trainer air demo in Dubai airshow. It is as agile as JF-17 with max thrust 8400kg.
Most importantly, all profit from this plane will go to AVIC unlike JF-17.

Now you know the reason why desPite so many talk, any export of JF-17 to other countries never materialise..
Top speed of this trainer Lt-15 is 1.4 Mach, not 1.6 Mach. Also there is huge difference between Empty weight, loaded weight and max take of weight with Jf17 and also other aspects aready said by krash and hasnain.

No doubt LT-15 is good advance trainer jet.

.
L-15 has nothing to do with JFT-17. L-15 would only become a challenge for similar trainers like BAe hawk and korean golden eagle.

twin seats JFT will only help to appeal more customers who want their pilots to go through training pro gramme first

It would also make it expensive as you have two engines to look after. WHY ELSE DO YOU THINK US AIRFORCE HAS 2000f16S when they have capable fighters like F15s and F18s . This logic does not hold entirely true.

No neccessary truth, the famous cheap F-5E is a twin engine.

You will all see what I meant in the end of year. Then we will know who is the 2 first export customer of L-15. L-15 future is real bright.

JF-17 will most likely end up just a Pakistan aero project with no export customer looking for it. It might still end up with some export countries buying it.. But only after L-15 gobble up the lion share first.

L-15 is a trainer, will likely to be marketed as a trainer and will remain as a trainer. I dont know why some people become so "enlighted" that things reveal upon them, which dont even reveal upon CATIC/PAC professionals.

What u r saying can only happen after Pakistan take over complete production line and adopt JFT as Indigenous program.
This is not going to happen unless China take her hand out of the pool. Sanction over JFT sale will affect China equally.
Plz stop raising self assumed stupid points.

BAF's decision also has a very important dimension, the political ties. Unless Awami league is in the corridors of power, I dont see any good development in the bilatral relationships. From PAC's prospective, it would also be a risky sale.

in my option PAC should watch out for any sale of this aircraft to a country that has pro-Indian political party that has remained in power many times. granted JF-17 is not a state of the Art and Novel aircraft but no one would like to see it dissected and presented as a present to Indians who might want to have a personal look to exploit its weaknesses

F5 and famous!!! You must be joking. PAF snubbed the offer and apart from Iran i dont think anyone worth their salts bought it. Even USAF did not buy it preferring to go with the Phantom F4. Compare that with F16s and see the numbers. I am not saying anything against L15 and it may be a good trainer. Being a trainer their is sense in having twin engins for redundancy, but as a run of the mill fighter which is the work horse of the AFs you would be hard pressed to find an AF which solely had twin engined fighters, inspite of the advantage that they carry.

I see PAF desperately going after JF-17's planned induction. They would never want to invest money on overhauling of Mirages,F-7s and then retiring them after few months of service. (It happened with few FT-6 and A-5s.)

FC-1 being a very flexible design can easily be transformed to meet potential customer's requirements. The data available on internet/media is way inferior than the actual strength. I saw somewhere a model of JF-17 at Zhuahi airshow, it was carrying 2x Mk-84s (Yes the 2000lbs bomb) on underwing stations. However according to PAC/PAF, these two inner pylons aren't heavy enough to carry such load:D.

Same goes with Ra'ad, H-2/4 and C-802 loads, the Thunder's true weapon carrying potential would never be shared with media...but with the customers only. The decreasing military budgets around the globe will one day strive for low-cost but hard hitting solutions..I'm sure Thunder will be one of them!

How many JF17 sold and who bought?

baita jao ja ker khailo;)

Export variant isn't good as jf17 or we can say FC-1 < jf17 I have heard recently PAC of Pakistan has modified the avionics to meet their requirements as in Alkhalid 1 which is uses HIT indigenous armour

China has many project on hands. It do not need on a single project to survive.
