What matters is the headlines, the missiles may not have hit any meaningful target but that wont stop the mullahs from claiming otherwise, why pay the full cost when you can claim victory for a quarter of that.

Like the Turks to the north, the neighbors from the East have committed what can only be deemed a declaration of war under normal circumstances, the motives and targets are irrelevant.

The process to neutralize IRGC presence in the country will continue, this will only accelerate it.

Just like Russia-Ukraine situation, Iran can't tolerate NATO forces in neighbouring countries/south-East Asia, Central Asia, Caucasus, up to mediterranean. This is not considered interfering in neighbouring countries. The neighbouring countries should not expect Iran to deliver enemy forces flowers. They can work with Iran to throw them out or become a place where differences are settled.

You can always count on US to downplay the severity of any missile attacks and that is certainly the case here. State Dept will issue its typical statements to stay calm in light of the fact that really any US officials who are still in Iraq are essentially living on borrowed time.

Expect to see some pictures released shortly of catastrophic damage to US interests in northern Iraq.

Per the WSJ, US officials said the new compound was not hit and that one of the 6 missiles fired landed more than 2 km away.

A lot of people are not realizing that the existing US consulate in Erbil was not the one hit, the one that was hit by the missile attack was over 8 miles from the city center, it is the new US consulate on the outskirts of Erbil under construction. It is unclear if the new consulate itself was spared by the Iranians but there are indications several compounds that were immediately around it were completely destroyed while others in the near vicinity sustained catastrophic damage.
