Dying at 22 is too steep a price for being ‘the best’

A peaceful life is a better life to me. :)

Yes, he could have chosen a path where he did not have to turn himself into a corporate slave. Isn't it sad how these corporates pressurise us to invest the best period of our life churning money for 'em? :(

Peace can be found in many ways. And the kid in question made choices that led him to where he ended up. It may look different to us from the outside looking in, but to him, the choices would have seemed correct.

and presence of chatter-boxes like me is a must. :agree:
Why exactly do you browse the internet? Isn't it a capitalist creation of sick Americans (DARPA)? Isn't your ISP another sick capitalist? I smell hypocrisy......................................................................

then you should ask the american space agency to vacate the "international space station" because lot of it was built by the russians who used their ussr-time experience.

and i can stretch this to progresses made via socialistic means since time immemorial.

Already chosen choices to choose from for anyone living in these times.............................

indeed... the owners go sailing on yacht-cum-submarine while the underlings run about building the monies... he really could have turned out different, had he just questioned even once - i missed out on saying that, thanks.

In today's world happiness is materialism.

I see one more reason why he got killed; he never learnt to say NO to something he did not want, we south Asians are brought up to be submissive and this guy was aware that he was his boss's slave. JMHO!

In today's world happiness is materialism.

it is right that we all must be fulfilled of our material needs, only then can a society be deemed comfortable... however the problem becomes when, (a). a society's political arrangement expects the citizens to provide for their own material comforts ( even basic ) rather than be state-provided, which leads to citizens becoming selfish and short-term-thinking, (b). frivolous items ( like cell phone and video games ) become wide-spread.

so yes, we can differentiate materialism ( which you point correctly ) from materially comfortable.

so true...and there is a second angle too... satisfying the gossip/bragging egos of parents who emotionally pressurize children into wrong things because "they have spent hard-earned money on their children".

Turns out he committed suicide.

The father played a negative role in this. His son had resigned but his father put pressure on him to take the job back.

Now we all know how controlling and obsessive Indian parents can be. You need to see the documentary on Indians competing in spelling bee. They effectively turn them into slaves.

You make a good point, but second generation immigrants are not as submissive as the first generations ones, as assimilation occurs inevitably over subsequent generations.

That's right!
But come to think of it if the govt provided all the money then we would have a bunch of lazy galoots. Few days back I had watched a video about the "fall of British empire" and why it is inevitable??
The main reason behind Britain going bankrupt would be that somewhere in early 1900's the British empire decided to pamper its citizens by providing medical facilities and other such benefits which were given for free. This subsequently caused the successive governments to take more loan from the banks. And now they say the debt is about 400-500% times the economy(not sure of the exact digit but I'm sure this is not an exaggerated amount).
frivolous items ( like cell phone and video games ) become wide-spread.
Ahemmmmmmmm
Like you've started to like FB, you will also start like a mobile....if you purchase it. :)

But I get your point, happiness today is directly proportional to the money one earns...or so ppl assume.

Logical!!!
My statement applies to those who have to send money back home and who responsibilities on their shoulders (like student loans).

Only the tough survive in such a business. I also know of people who burn out by the time they are thirty, but after having made $30 million or more. Then they figure out what to do with the rest of their lives, being able to afford a slower pace. The boy in this story obviously could not handle the stress and took the easy way out.
