hmmmm. what's the problem with idolatry, I never understood it. people don't literally believe that some idol is god, it's just an object of focus. unnecessary hostility against harmless behaviour alienates people.

Idolaters don't literally believe the idol is God because the idol is extension of human ego. Rejection of idolatry is not new in India. Original Vedic faith rejects idolatry. Vihari faith rejects it. Jain faith rejects it. I could make an idol, it would not be rejection of my belief but I would be concerned if I was making it for someone who worships it as a deity.

Hindus use Mangal Pradip. In Bangladesh Muslims also use Mangal Pradip during any cultural program inauguration, just like what Hindus do in Navratri festival. No country in the world goes easy on armed militancy and military has a duty to uproot that.
