Dr Qadir - A national hero or traitor

No, its alright. As it happens, APJ is one of the most independent minded Presidents that India has ever had, if you care to do your research well.

However, I am not interested in proselytizing my particular point of view at the moment. Feel free to compare him with criminals like AQ Khan.

I agree, Kalam is one of greatest presidents India's ever had. He's earned recpect from friends and foes.

the topic of this thread is "Dr. AQ - A national hero or traitor?"

Did you know Dr. Khan was born on April Fool's Day. April 1st, 1936. In Bhopal. :coffee:

What a brilliant observation but I fail to see the point of it.
DR. William Harvey (described properties of blood/circulation), Franz Josef Hayden (composer), Dr. Joseph E. Murray (Kidney transplants ), Phyicist/Scientist Claude Cohen-Tannoudji (Trapped atoms with laser light) and Activist Wangari Maathai who planted 12 million trees in Kenya all share the same birthday.
Yes, the world is made of fools. :disagree:

Haider, what proof does he give that Pak supplied these centrifuges to NK?

He didn't say he was involved in that exchange, he is just quoting hearsay.

News Desk

RAWALPINDI: The shipment of centrifuges to North Korea in 2000 was revealed by President Pervez Musharraf in his book ìIn the Line of Fireî, asserted Dr Qadeer Khan while defending his remarks about the nuclear equipment transfer. Talking to Geo News, he said he has just explained what President Musharraf had already conveyed to the world through his book.

He said he was asked in his interview with a foreign agency whether the centrifuges were sent to North Korea in 2000. He said if he would have denied it, they could refer to Musharraf's book that had already revealed it. He said, therefore, he told the interviewer that the shipment was made.

He said he did not reveal anything new. He said if it was against the interest of the country then Musharraf is responsible for it as he had already revealed it.
Musharraf book revealed N-shipment: Qadeer

Asim your hero revealed it before Qadeer.

Before returning to Pakistan, Dr AQ Khan had a successful career and was living a comfortable life in Europe, something many of our countrymen yearn for and would be willing to sacrifice a great deal in pursuit of. Very few people would be willing to give this up and return to Pakistan, Dr Khan being one of them. His sole motivation being Pakistan’s betterment and defence, a noble aim indeed. The action performed by him and his team enabled Pakistan to stand with dignity and free from cowering in India’s shadow.

The way Dr Khan is being treated is despicable. Our spineless Leaders and system are corrupt to the core. It is this system that allowed Dr Khan, a hero to be degraded and treated as a common criminal whilst at the same time this dirty system has elevated notoriously corrupt politicians who have harmed and looted the country to become innocent over night and enabled them to assume positions of leadership under the shade of the NRO.

Only the Khilafah system offers an effective challenge to a corrupt system and leaders. The Khilafah system would value and ensure the protection of its citizens (Muslim & Non-Muslim); it would encourage contribution from its citizens by being loyal and cultivating a conducive, fair environment where justice is applied and not manipulated.

What kind of signal is this filthyyy, corrupt system sending to other overseas Pakistanis who have the desire of emulating Dr Khan by serving Pakistan – Don’t!!! Perhaps we should be organising a long march to change this corrupt system. :pdf:

Well he practically started harping "Pak government gave NK nuke stuff" Why? He wants sanctions put on Pakistan.

Some treasure.

 Neo, all i'm saying is that it's our twisted logic of insecurity, national pride and expansion and the army's persistent attempts to try to undermine our neighbors that have led to this dubious heroization of AQ Khan. Pakistan's future is now at stake as extremists and self-styled jihadi groups threaten to undermine the country. Just look at the recent events in NWFP. Are we any more secure having a nuclear bomb while the country is being co-opted by crazy militants? Is nuclear capability of any use in this dire situation? :disagree:

You know till date, America has not released a single photograph of the alleged, C-130 they caught landing in NK from their SATs?

Or have they? Since that is the ONLY thing people have going when it comes to this claim about Pak and NK.

Just coz we got a big piece of our missile tech from them, doesn't mean we gave our nukes to them in return.

AQ Khan is a man with a superiority complex - he wants all the attention - he wants to be in control (which he isnt) and that is why he has foot in mouth disease. call him what u may, the pak nuke program has gone from strength to strength without his help. there are hundreds of scientists who are working night and day to ensure that. he was a pioneer who started the cladestine nuke program and we should give him credit for that.

He smuggled stuff here n there.

He was our top smuggler :).

Can someone find that article by some western dude who has a detailed story about each and everything this dude did? I don't mean the smuggler comment as an insult. If you read that article, such smuggling for the nation's benefit was truly heroic. If he hadn't done that we would be decades behind.

He got away with it, while the others would've failed.

When you read that article you'll realize how talented he was at the whole smuggling game. He did it all under the Amreekan nose! With that in mind, its not far fetched to assume that this guy got away with passing centrifuge designs to Iran.

I mean how hard would it have been? He had an all access pass. "Oye chotay, yeh boxes truck pe daal deh" Who would question the big boss? Especially in Pakistani culture!?

Sending a few boxes across the border to Iran, is just not that hard when no one is ever going to inspect you for being the "national hero".

I have read this debate on various fora. My only point of contention remains that the so called smuggling could not have gone on without the connivance of the powers that be. I agree that AQ Khan may have used the situation to his advantage, and his role may not have been what he wants people to believe, and if people in the know are to be believed, he has been quite destructive in certain ways. However the point remains that he was not the whole and sole of the racket that went on. i think he has been made a scape goat, and if he had accepted the arrangement initially, for expediency, he should have stood by his stance . His present tendency to now issue statements is counterproductive and should be curtailed.

In 1999, when Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister. Newspapers reported that Musharraf advised him to form a Strategic Command Authority to make a proper system now after 1998 Blasts and stop the ONE MAN SHOW (A.Q.Khan's full control) that was on-going since years.

In middle of 2003, during inspections against Iran by the IAEA, signs of Nuclear proliferation surfaced. In septemener 2003, Presidend Bush with CIA director George Tenet met President Musharraf. They had Pakistan's P-1 centrifuge (version Pakistan no longer uses) drawings, with blue prints, part numbers, dates and signatures of A.Q.Khan!

Let it remain understood that Pakistan's Nuclear facilities before our Atomic blast and this recent Nuclear strategic command system was in FULL secret CONTROL of A.Q.Khan, since years!

In late 2003, a ship named BBC China was seized in the Mediterrean carrying sensitive centifuge components from Malaysia to Libya. The facility in Malaysia also turned out to have links to A.Q.Khan.

Libya openly claimed that Pakistan was source of their technology and centrifuges.

In 2003, Pakistan was all over WORLD MEDIA and the world had started blaming Pakistan for illicit source of technology. Take up any paper to see how they openly balmed A.Q.Khan and Kahuta plant.

When investigations were launched in November 2003, it emerged that A.Q.Khan had started his activities as far back as 1987, primarily with Iran.

In 1994-1995 A.Q.Khan has ordered to manufacture of 200 P-1 centrifuges that Pakistan had discarded in mid-1980's. They were being dispatched to Dubai for onward distribution.

A.Q.Khan transferred atleast two dozen P-1 and P-2 centrifuges to North Korea.

Hand written letters signed by A.Q.Khan have also been recovered as proofs - and the IAEA and CIA - BOTH have such letters collected through Libya and Iran.

In 1970's the program was directly handled by Bhutto who gave FULL AUTHORITY to A.Q.Khan. Funds were given at Khan's disposal without questions and accountablity, as everyone wanted to have a BOMB! There was no coordination b/w KRL and PAEC. KRL was independent.

Whatever has now happened - A.Q.Khan - though our hero - is ultimately and soley RESPONSIBLE for the bad name he has created for Pakistan! And, after 4-5 years these regular statements he's giving against ONE Musharraf signifies his deviated interest.

A.Q.Khan should have kept his mouth shut! He has laready disgraced Pakistan and now he's giving the world another chance to malign PAkistan.

His ENDORSEMENT of Nawaz Sharif is yet another shameful indication.

The WORLD has PROOFS of his involvement - he should keep his and Pakistan's grace!
